Fater did not appear to have smoked Gatlin, that leg looked pretty even but Gatlin should have smoked Frater and he did not so the Jamaicans get some bragging rights.

The beast appeared to have smoked Gay for most of the bend but the Beast did slow down considerably to hand over to Bolt who was barely moving while Gay handed off the baton to Bailey at a merry clip. Hmm,,,,May be Gay and Blake really did closer splits than we want to believe?

Hubert Lawrence says that 100m splits are measured when the baton passes the 100m mark, not when its handed over.

so then the split covers 2 runners on each leg? that cannot be an accurate represenation on how fast each runner is on his leg, or is that not the consideration?

It's the leg that is measured, not the runner(s). If you think about it, the runners are all running different distances, even the ones running against each other on the same leg.

I've always felt that we should not read too much into Sprint relay splits. They are useful info yes, but it's easy to misinterpret the data.

Relooking at all the video it was clear that Blake made a lot of ground on Gay and in fact handed off before him but it was only a safe handover...if that last change was better the WR would have been lowered significantly....so basically...look for a new WR soon.
