The JFF just released the names of the twenty-four players that will be preparing for a three-nation football festival in St Kitts later this month, and against Grenada on August first in Grenada.
Eleven U/20 players have been included in the squad: Shavar Thomas, Alien Whittaker (GK), Omar Daley, Keith Kelly, Sean Fraser, Wolry Wolfe, Shane Stevens, Fabian Dawkins, Kevon Harris, Damion Williams and Christopher Nicolas.
The other members of the training squad are: Donovan Ricketts, Aaron Lawrence, Leon Gordon, Ray Graham, Linval Dixon, Claude Davis, Marco McDonald, Robert Scarlett, Patrick Graham, Fabian Taylor, Kirk Wright Damion Stewart and Jermiane Johnson.
First thing, it is good to see Jermaine back, since such talent should not be allowed to go to waste. Maybe "Fabulous is still hurt, hence is non-call.
Seondly, the midfield will no doubt be inviting new players to step up and challenge for a starting position on the W/Cup squad. But if they do step, will they be given preference over the regulars?
The forward line also appears to be up for grabs. If fit, Fabian Taylor should be the first choice, with Nicholas and company fighting for the second and maybe third spot.
I hope Scarlett finally get a chance to prove is worth on the left flank, though Woolery Wolfe may have a thing or two to say about that.
With four goalkeeps in the squad (I say teck dem all) Rickttes, Lawrence, Gordon and Whittaker, they should all be given some playing time. Makes no sense one starts in all games, time to give some valuable exposure to the others.
The question now is: Where is Fuller? Is he secretly trying out with a foriegn club? Or is he too missing in action. Maybe he too as a Dentist appointment.
Some may even ask where is Boyd, Winston Griffiths, Milton Griffiths just to name a few, and let us hope that "Tappa" is back at Hull City and not trapped in a Dentist chair somewhere in Jamaica.
Overall, quite a youthful sqaud, but if the U/20 are as good as some claim, and we believe, whoever takes the field should be good enough to see the RBz through.
Victory and goal margins should not be the only thing that should be expected from this bunch. We should of course expect nothing less than victories from the Boyz. Also, the finishing needs to show vast improvements. But overall we should expect the game reports to describe to us that the Boyz are at level above the oppositions. In fitness and the other departments of the game (Ball control, ball movement, team play--Supporting each other, generating attack, defending, set plays ect, ect). After all, the Boyz are a W/Cup training squad, right? At this point they should be a notch or two above thier other rivals.
Good luck to the Boyz and good luck to those that are now at their respective clubs engaging in the traditional preseason training...Can't wait fi si "Bibi" in action. Also Barry Hayles...Lets hope that he too hasn't been thrown away for good.
Respect and irie ites! Charmin
