Being supporters of the fabulous RBz, we have no doubt set a number of expectations that we expect our team, the RBz, to accomplish. But, are our expectations unrealistic? Are we expecting too much from the TD, coaches and the JFF?

In this the final round, six teams remain: Costa Rica, Mexico, Honduras, USA, TnT and Jamaica. Can our programme, leagues, sponsorships, and facilities compare with any of the others? If not, are we asking too much of Clovis?

Take the USA for instance: A federation that is financially secure...Is Bruce Arena responsible for any other team other than the senior national team? Does he need to train is forwards on the idea of passing, off the ball movement and shooting, each time that they are called to training?

What about our goalkeeping? A few of our goals at least, have been the result of poor goalkeeping. Should Clovis be blamed for this. Can he and his staff correct these problems in a matter of weeks or months. When "push comes to shove" won't instinct take over? How do we or Clovis change the bad habits of those that have been a part of the programme of a number of years now?

On the otherhand, others will say, "but he as the players that should be able to deliver at this level." That may be true, but suppose a few cannot or cannot deliver consistenly enough. Should he then replace those with players that probably doesn't show him much in training? Do we have the players that can replace those that we deemed as being incompetent at this level or at this time?

Do we think that Andy and "Tappa" starts because the coach is stupid? What if the others fail to stamp any form of authority during training. Should he ignore this and play them nonetheless?

Why does he stick with Burton and Nandi, anyway? Could it be that we as supporters see the deficiencies in these players but refuse to believe that this is the best that Jamaica as to offer at this time, so we call for changes?

On the other hand, others will say, these are the same players that perform excellently whenever they return to their respective clubs. Why then can't they do the same for Jamaica?

What about Gardner? Why doesn't the coach give him more freedom to roam in the midfield? You know what, many say that he, Gardner, is a defensive liability. I don't believe that. Looking at both wing-backs, Marshall and Gardner, I think Gardner as been the better defensive player, and very few goalscoring opportunities develop from his flank. I agree though, that at times he tend to make a few silly and rash tackles, resulting in yellow-cards. I must quickly add though, I too think that he would be better of playing in the midfield. But maybe the coach has weighed his options, and as decided that playing him in a more defensive setup is the best move, for the team, at this time.

What about our set plays: Gardner and Andy, two professionals, have taken a number of corner kicks that should have resulted in fines for both. Their corners at times, sail over the heads of everyone, and on a few occasions have curled outside for a goal kick. What a waste. Should the coach be blame for this? Maybe, but then again, maybe not. I am sure he must have expressed his concern to the players, it is then up to them, being professionals, to deliever the goods when called upon. I am quite sure the player practise taking corners in training.

If you were given control of the team at this point, what changes would you make? In an effort ot correct the above concerns.

Do you think a change in formation would help? What about the players, and lets not forget the coaches. Any changes there?

Anyway, like you I know their is a lot more to it than that. Lets just pray that we can get it right, while voicing our concerns and questioning the decisions of those in charge, yet still remain supportive of the team, our team.

Respect and irie ites!

Why is everyone trying to blame Clovis? haven't you all realized that we are in a better position than the last time we tried out for the world cup? I am more confident now than I was last time around. With 4 matches remaining I see Jamaica in the world cup finals and doing well too.
Let me say something about Gardner, and I hope that you will understand when I say that he is not a defencive player. I can't see how people could say that he is and that he is better than Marshall as a defender. Let us go back to the game against the US and tell me, how would you rate Bibi's performance as a defender? I was watching the game and 90% of the US attack came on his side, even the comentator realized that he was vulnorable. Don't get me wrong, I love to watch him play and I think that he is one of our best and most consistent players. Thats why I think that he should be playing in the middle and not on the wings. In fact I don't know why we use wing backs and you hardly see squares coming across. Jamaica should use a 3-4-3 formation for the upcoming matches.

First question: Are our expectations too high? No!

Second question: Are these our best players? This bunch is very good...i.e. a good collection of individuals.

My take? The present collection of individuals are head and shoulder above the '98 group...however, at this present time - TEAM ('98) for team ('2002)...Notice the spelling? Caps for '98 and... - The '98 squad was a much more disciplined and cohesive unit.

My fustration stems from the potential I see in this collection of individuals...If? If? ...If they are every welded into a TEAM...it dun!

I have said it already....this collection of individuals...becoming a TEAM...FIFA TOP TEN...DEFINATELY!

So? No need to pull this structure apart...find some way to get them to think team...YES! In the "Heat of the Battle"!

Forward to WC 2002!

Respect!!!

Some very good questions you have posed Charmin. While I cannot address all, I will first say, I do not think that our expectations are unrealistic. We are really fighting the odds because of lack of infrastructure and money to put such in place. The fact is, we have always been in such a position, but we continue to defy the odds. It is a part of our pshche that our reach should exceed our grasp, and in that light we will fight and conquer.

Onto Gardener. I have always been one to be calling for us to take advantage of this guy's vision, speed and attacking skills, by playing him in the midfield. The problem I see if with de Oliveria deciding if he wants to go with a system which emphasizes strength in the midfield, or does he want to give himself the extra attacking option of having wingbacks as in the typical Brazilian system?

It is a difficult call to make, as Gardner is a good wingback when he is attacking. We however have better defensive players in that position than Bibi. My take is to forget the wingback play, and focus on a dominant midfield. Bibi would then form part of this midfield, as an attacker playmaker.

On to our goalkeeping, I think our goalies are at the bottom of the list in terms of ranking in the Hex. This is an area we need to work on as well.
