Jamaica's newly appointed football director Carl Brown, was one of 46 coaches from Concacaf who participated in the Strategic Planning Course for senior coaches.

The course was conducted by Les Reed, the director of technical development of English football and Martin Hunter, the English national youth coach, from December 11-14 at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence in Macoya.

Among the top coaches who participated from 22 countries were Jose Luis Herrera (Mexico), ex-West Indies Test player Vivan Richards brother, Mervyn, who is attached to Antigua national senior team, Gary Stempel (Panama), John Hoft (Suriname), Ronald Karoondgik (Suriname), Peter Cargill (Jamaica) and George Joseph (T&T), Patrice Du Mont (Haiti) and Brown, who got Jamaica's football job a few weeks ago.

Brown was the national senior team coach to three Brazilians who were technical directors over the past four years. During this time, Jamaica became the first English speaking country from the Caribbean to qualify for the World Cup finals in France 1998.

The programme which was the first of its kind in the region, is the brainchild Richard Braithwaite, who was recently named the FC's Director of Development.

Braithwaite was previously the FC's Head of Technical Administration, and his new role will include all of the functions which will be key to the development of sports in the office and on the field of play.

Braithwaite now has the responsibility of planning, developing, implementing and evaluating training and development programmes throughout the confederation, while also working to enhance and upgrade the skills of coaches, administrators, referees and other personnel throughout the region.

He will also serve as the chief liaison between the Football Confederation and FIFA and other organisations regarding training and development needs of the confederation.

Currently, Braithwaite, the former Trinidad and Tobago senior team manager and manager of the year 1986 and 1988, is compiling a survey of the development needs of each of the national associations in the region to issue a report to FIFA regarding development requirements.
