Group A at the eight-team 2003 FIFA competition is composed of Colombia, Japan, New Zealand and the host France. The top two from each group will advance to the semifinals in Lyon (18:00) and Paris (21:00) on 26 June.
The third-place match will take place on 28 June in Saint-Etienne at 18:00, while the 2003 final is set for Paris the next day at 21:00.
USA technical director Bruce Arena’s roster includes five players (defenders Gregg Berhalter and Frankie Hejduk, midfielders Eddie Lewis and Earnie Stewart, and forward Jovan Kirovski), who were part of the U.S. squad that captured the bronze medal at the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup held in Mexico.

After the Confederations Cup, the USA will meet Paraguay in a friendly on 6 July in Columbus, Ohio, before they try to defend their CONCACAF Gold Cup title from 12-27 July. Altogether, three of the Confederations’ Cup nations – Brazil, Colombia and the USA – will compete in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
