Women's league kicks off today Observer Reporter Saturday, June 14, 2003
THE quest for the 2003/04 Sherwin Williams/Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Women's League starts today with 14 of the 15 participating teams in action.
Defending champions, Portmore Strikers, will compete alongside Harbour View, Duhaney Park, Portland Strikers, Brown's Town and Maverley/Hughenden in zone A.
Last season's beaten finalist, Barbican will contest zone B with Rae Town, Namow, Olympic Gardens, Greater Portmore, Waterhouse, St Catherine Upliftment and Untouchable Strikers.
Portmore will open their account against Brown's Town at Racing field, while Barbican tackle at Greater Portmore in two.
In other matches, Harbour View host Maverley, Duhaney Park entertain Vineyard Town, Rae Town take on Waterhouse at Breezy Castle, newcomers Namow and Upliftment meet at Havannah Heights, and Olympic take on Untouchables at Cling Cling Oval.
Portland Strikers will rest on Saturday, but they will play their opening game on Wednesday against Duhaney Park at Carder Park.
All games start at 3:30 pm.
Five new teams are in the competition this season and they are, Namow (Clarendon), Upliftment, Greater Portmore (St Catherine), Vineyard Town (KSAFA) and Portland.
