Look like Burton's job is in jeapordy. They have signed a big name striker from Lazio.
RAVANELLI LATEST:EXCLUSIVE Dateline: 17/07/01 12:59:00 Derby County have announced that the club had agreed a two-year deal in principle with Lazio centre-forward Fabrizio Ravanelli. The player returned to Italy on Tuesday afternoon to confirm details with his advisors and his current club and Derby County expects him to complete his move to Pride Park Stadium in the coming days. Derby County manager Jim Smith said: “I am delighted we have agreed this deal in principle but, as always in football, I want to see his signature on the dotted line before I get too excited. “I have spent some time with Fabrizio and he seems genuinely enthusiastic at the prospect of returning to the Premiership with Derby County. While the deal has appeared to be a long time coming, it was vital that we came to an agreement which suited both parties. “The player has returned to Italy to finalise matters with Lazio and I would suggest that it will be all systems go after that. “I am confident that Fabrizio will be a Derby County player in good time for our pre-season tour of Estonia and Finland.” Ravanelli Factfile: Born in Perugia in Central Italy the 'White Feather' began as a professional with his hometown club, before moving on to Avellino, Casertana, and Reggiana. The silver haired frontman achieved international prominence at Juventus. The Italian striker moved to the Premiership for the 1996/97 season with Middlesbrough and began his career in England in style with a hat-trick on his Premiership debut against Liverpool. As Rams fans all remember, Ravanelli also celebrated a hat-trick against the Rams that season and was instrumental in Boro's FA Cup quarter-final victory at the Baseball Ground. Ravanelli ended the season with 16 goals in the Premiership, having played in 35 league games. Fabrizio moved on to Olympique Marseille after Middlesbrough were relegated and spent last season in Rome with Lazio. The 32 year-old striker has earnt 22 caps for Italy, netting eight times.

Seems like Derby may have to hold on to Deon a bit longer?

Derby not in Ravanelli's future
Reuters
ROME (July 21, 2001 12:17 PM EDT) - Italian striker Fabrizio Ravanelli has pulled out of his expected move to Derby County and will be staying at Lazio, ANSA news agency reported on Saturday.
Ravanelli was in Derby last week to meet officials of the premier league club, with County manager Jim Smith saying afterwards that a two-year deal had been agreed in principle.
But Ravanelli, who returned to Italy to discuss the move with his advisers, has now told Lazio chief executive Massimo Cragnotti that he will stay at the Rome club, ANSA reported.
The 32-year-old, who played for Derby's premier league rivals Middlesbrough in 1996-97, joined Lazio from French club Olympique Marseille in January 2000.
