Should we credit the JFF or the Brasilian Federation for the upcoming game that will be played between Jamaica and Brasil in Brasil on August 9?
Judging from the reports coming out of Jamaica, it was the Brasilians that first made contact, we accepted. This is good news, considering that a days or so ago, a proposed trip to England to face Brentford, a lower division team, was abruptly cancelled by the management in charge of Brentford, citing the recent violence in West Kingston, Jamaica as the reason for the cancellation.
But why would Brasil choose us? Why would a country with such great stars, history, coaches, facilites and clubs choose us, little Jamaica?
Could it be that they respect us and believe that we are worthy contenders, though we perch precuriously in fourth position in our W/Cup group standings?
Or, they would rather not play another South American team, since they would be meeting and probably have already met them during they quest to qualify for another W/Cup?
Or, in an effort to get back on track, they see us as the perfect opportunity (A Salmon Vs a Great White) to repair their broken image to the world.
Personally, it doesn't matter one bit to me what Brasil's motives may be. We should cease this moment as an opportunity to demonstarte to the ourselves and the world that we can play the game. We need to go to Brasil and play ball, don't just sit back and hope for a draw. Show those Samba-loving people and the Reggae Boyz are the real deal.
The Technical Director, Clovis de Olivera, said that he will try to have all the best players for this game. Fine. But what if the their respective clubs refuse, considering that they are all probably in preseason training. Should we still send the "Replacement Soldiers" to do battle with the "Samba Kings", in Brasil at that? I say sure, why not?
Marlon Samuels, with very little cricketing experience, was thrown in to face the greatest cricket team on earth at this time, and he did creditably well. Okay, that is cricket, but so what? The RBz, are not just eleven players and we nor the JFF should think that way.
Dun dem RBz!
Respect and irie ites! Charmin

Charmin i guess it shows that we are now getting some respect. It should be interesting though, especially if we can field our best team.

Matters not the initiator...
Play ball! This one I'll tape. This one should join the "RBSC TAPE MALL".
While I'm at it - #1 Fan: How about having a drive to procure for the RBSC LIBRARY - 1. All matches played by the '98 team in the WC '98? 2. US vs Jamaica Match, WC Qualifier played in Washington's RFK Stadium 1997? 3. Gold Cup match played in the Orange Bowl against Brazil? Was it October 1997?
Ofcourse all Jamaica matches from '98 WC Qualifiers to present...but, those named above should have priorty ratings.
Suh mi seeit!

I am glad for the invitation, that's all I can say.Is this tournament a FIFA sanction event? Will the English clubs refuse the releasal of our players? Will all our players want to take the long trek to brazil?Should any of them be dropped for missing out on such an opportunity without a valid reason. What u tink?

Its all good and well that we are invited to play the number 2 team in the world but I have to really wonder why. I believe that Brasil wants to use us to get back on track. There are so many other 'high quality' teams that are out there, so I wonder why did they choose us? If we intend to play well against the brazilians we need to get all our top players. I hear you talking about 'replacement soldiers' but I don't think that there is such a thing, Its either you are in or out. The only additions I expect to see to our WC squad are the coming in of Kelly, Johnson, Hayles and Thomas. To tell you th truth, I don't like the way they [brazil] are treating us. If we had some other matches planned I wouldn't have liked to hear that we cancelled them because of this invitaton. Well I hope that our team will do well and I know they can, I'm just not comfortable with the way were invited and the motive behind it. nyways, all the best to the boyz!!

Maybe it's because the coach and trainer are brazilian. What ever their reasons for inviting us, I am just glad for the quality game.Lets just hope all our players are committed and are prepared to turn their backs on their club teams.
