Default The result of dependence on low skill (semi-dummy) tourism =

= Being hopelessly backward and unable to leverage national brainpower for real development as progressive countries do. This because it "tek too long" as a semi-dummy here proclaimed.

Dummies don't understand that saying for 20-30 years that something valuable is to be avoided because it "tek too long" is the self-fulfilling reasoning of morons

Quote:
“After ranking over 160 countries in the world on this measure, we found that about a dozen of the 20 most vulnerable countries in the world to a shock to tourism were from the Caribbean. By far, the most affected region in the world.” Jamaica was ranked number 17 globally, one of the nearly one dozen Caribbean countries in the top 20 most vulnerable, and at number 10 in the Latin American and Caribbean region out of 35. The most vulnerable Caribbean country was Aruba, with The Bahamas at number 5, and Barbados at number 14.

Mooney adds, “We compiled data on tourism arrivals (both air and sea) for Jamaica, Barbados, and The Bahamas, to see how this shock might compare to previous periods. What we found was shocking: during the global financial crisis—coinciding with one of the sharpest single year contractions of GDP in Jamaica's recent history—tourism arrivals fell by at most 5 per cent, year on year. We expect the shock to be an order of magnitude larger in 2020. A loss of between 50 and 80 per cent relative to previous years.”
A country should know its economy is in deep shiit when an economic "recovery" means a return to eternal dependence on low-skill/low value-adding industry like tourism where "butlers" are celebrated as "heroes" and have articles written about their awe-inspiring skills in a national daily i.e. Tourism Newsletter

The progressive United States of America "should know its economy is in deep shiit" .........

With nearly 17 million jobs, the leisure and hospitality sector is the fifth-largest employment sector in the U.S.– representing 11% of U.S. employment.Mar 20, 2020

I would have thought this is self evident by now. Are there some here who still dispute this? Incredible.

I'm not against low-level jobs. There are lots of people who need such jobs.

The problem is NOT the presence of such jobs.

The problem - once again - is having an industry which overwhelmingly features such jobs being the "leading industry" of a country.

Pretty amazing for real. Even after the BOJ Governor recently intimated that tourism features low value jobs and so is relatively pathetic in driving economic development.... they still continue with the foolfool arguments
