  • Dr Dre about to get a whole lot richer

    Hip Hops first billionaire?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
Apple's $3.2B Beats Buy Would Make Dre Rap's Richest Man

Dr. Dre leapfrogged Jay Z in FORBES’ latest rankings of hip-hop’s richest artists, claiming the number two position as his net worth soared to an estimated $550 million. Now it looks like the Beats cofounder could lay claim to the top spot in a matter of days.

Heard the story on Fast Money yesterday and had a "WHAT???!!!" moment!

Yeah I am telling you, that is the real deal right there. The man could have easily just coasted the rest of the way but he steps to another level with this project and now the super big payoff.

Reminds me of that consulting show on TV with Don Cheadle...House of Lies...where Omar Epps and his partner make a fortune with the hip-hop clothing line "Dollah Hyde".

The trick is to capture the imagination of Gen-Z. Dem have nuff money fi spend.

Beats headphone were all crap until the recent models, but the power of Marketing can make anything desireable it seems. Kudos to Beats (and SkullCandy) for making H-Phones the emerging audiophile segment. Now all the players are piling in like Focal, B&W, Wilson, NAD, Monster, Klipsch, PSB, B&O, etc

Yes, it has been impressive to see how they were able to build a brand , a whole new product line really, in a matter of a few years.

This is the kind of thing we need to see more of from our high income earners in show business. More business , less show.

America's love for artistes, especially hip-hop artistes.

Were these headphones any better than others out there? Debatable, but they looked ok and Dr. Dre endorsed them. Result - they sold like crazy, the real ones and the fake!

Didn't matter. The fake ones added to the popularity until Apple thought it best to annex it before Google did!

Same reason why Ciroc and Myx, Puff Daddy or whatever his name is this minute, and Nicki Minaj products are doing so well. Who cares what it tastes like! Kartel's rum tasted like WD-40, but did well apparently.

                  Yep, its all about branding.

Build a brand that is "cool" and they will come in droves. Matters not if there is another product of higher technical quality out there.

Dr. Dre, take the money and run. This is another fad that can fade as soon as something else comes on the market. Good piece of business.
