Bunting seeks to collect outstanding settlement payment from Shaw

    3:32 pm, Mon February 4, 2013

Peter Bunting, Minister of National Security

Lawyers representing Peter Bunting, Minister of National Security and People’s National Party General Secretary, are headed for the Supreme Court Monday.

RJR News has learnt that the lawyers will be asking a Judge for an enforcement order for payment of funds due to their client from Audley Shaw, Opposition Spokesman on Finance and Jamaica Labour Party’s Deputy Leader.

The matter stemmed from an incident during the 2011 general election campaign when Mr. Shaw made statements from a political platform which Mr. Bunting claimed were libellous.

Mr. Bunting wrote to Mr. Shaw demanding an apology, which Mr. Shaw reportedly refused to do.

As a result, Mr. Shaw was slapped with a lawsuit but the matter eventually went to arbitration with both sides agreeing on a monetary settlement and a timeline for payment.

But RJR News sources said Mr. Bunting's lawyers are claiming that the timeline has passed without Mr. Shaw paying over the money to their client.

Well, does that mean he is bankrupt and will have to give up his seat?
