CRUISE passenger arrivals in March were 52.4 per cent higher than the comparative period last year.
The Falmouth pier — the largest of the three, which carried 43.9 per cent of the 160,000 passengers during the month — was largely responsible for the rise in passengers, according to preliminary data from the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ).
Eighteen ships carrying 71,000 passengers docked there between in March compared to 10 ships carrying 51,000 passengers during the same month last year.
Ocho Rios saw an 18.5 per cent increase in its arrivals, while Montego Bay saw a 54 per cent per cent year on year increase in arrivals during the month.
Should the preliminary data be reflective of 2012’s expected performance, cruise passenger arrivals will reach record levels this year at 1.9 million visitors.
