LIME says no agreement reached among players in the telecoms industry
Telecommunications company LIME has poured cold water on an announcement by the Ministry of Technology that an agreement has been reached among players in the industry.
In a statement on Tuesday February 14, Technology Minister Phillip Paulwell said he had reached a pact with the country's three main telecoms provider, Lime, Digicel and Flow; to improve the current regulatory environment.
Mr Paulwell said the discussions which took place over the last three weeks ended with an agreement for the betterment of the industry and the nation as a whole.
However on Tuesday evening LIME said no agreement had been finalised involving the parties.
LIME says while there is no agreement in place it's encouraged by Mr. Paulwell comments that he's seeking to move quickly to reform Jamaica’s telecoms legislation.
This will reportedly be done by enacting emergency legislation and implementing the rates recommended by the Office of Utilities Regulation.
LIME has called on the Government to address the unfair regulation as a matter of urgency, to ensure that consumers receive a better deal in a competitive market
