LIME says no agreement reached among players in the telecoms industry

Telecommunications company LIME has poured cold water on an announcement by the Ministry of Technology that an agreement has been reached among players in the industry.
In a statement on Tuesday February 14, Technology Minister Phillip Paulwell said he had reached a pact with the country's three main telecoms provider, Lime, Digicel and Flow; to improve the current regulatory environment.
Mr Paulwell said the discussions which took place over the last three weeks ended with an agreement for the betterment of the industry and the nation as a whole.
However on Tuesday evening LIME said no agreement had been finalised involving the parties.
LIME says while there is no agreement in place it's encouraged by Mr. Paulwell comments that he's seeking to move quickly to reform Jamaica’s telecoms legislation.
This will reportedly be done by enacting emergency legislation and implementing the rates recommended by the Office of Utilities Regulation.
LIME has called on the Government to address the unfair regulation as a matter of urgency, to ensure that consumers receive a better deal in a competitive market

My take on telecom a yaard. Digicel will always get the better of LIME. Right now they have grown their business and can influence politicians on both side of the isle and with investment like their head office, their school technology program and charity arm it is going to be hard for any government to make policies that affect them negitively.

These Digicel managers are no fools. If you notice they stop sponsoring NPL games and throw the money with the Reggae boyz? Because they know the potential of having teams qualified and the exposure they get for it.

The fact is LIME which is Cable and Wireless has not "taken their takes" as mi uncle would say "huff you fi take yu take" and they realise the only option they had was coming to the media while Digicel use the community work and diplomacy with politicans. Which political you think can risk Digicel moving their head office?

Government can try and level the field but they can't level it enough for LIME to compete. They didn't do it effectiviely when they were JTC or Cable and Wireless so they have to change their model. Why didn't they bid for CLARO? The fact is it is hard right now for anybody to truly compete with Digicel.

One important thing we need is a case study on Digicel, and taking note of how to build a business. It sound good when we talk about leveling the playing field but when you have company like Digicel gone out of the gate a nuh easy fi put them back in a blocks, them a go use every influence they have.

Digicel has been a sponsor of the reggae boyz. Not a Claro deal. Digicel has thrown more money into the program as annonced by Burrell yesterday. No Claro deal. Digicel use to sponsor National Premier League and cut ties with them.

No it isn't...from January 2010 Digicel made it clear they would be supporting the 2014 WC campaign...the Claro sale was in 2011...
