PNP to drop Waite
Delano Franklyn could replace Waite

SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Just under 15 months since his triumph in a delegates' selection race to replace the embattled Kern Spencer as the Opposition People's National Party (PNP) standard bearer in North East St Elizabeth, Basil Waite is to be dropped for the upcoming elections, a highly placed party source has said.
"There are too many issues, not just one or two, we can't continue with him," the source told the Observer.
WAITE… selected to represent PNP in July 2010

Efforts to get official confirmation from the PNP's headquarters failed yesterday. Waite could not be reached and when contacted by telephone, the chairman of the PNP's Region Five (Manchester and St Elizabeth), Wensworth Skeffery, declined to comment.
"You have to speak to the hierarchy of the party," said Skeffery, who lost to Waite in the delegates' selection of July 2010.
Persistent reports that Delano Franklyn — who had a failed bid for Western St Mary in the 2007 parliamentary election — is the front runner to replace Waite, remained unconfirmed at press time last night. Efforts to reach Franklyn by telephone failed.
Since winning the selection race, Waite's efforts to assert himself in NE St Elizabeth have been largely frustrated. Leading members of a former constituency executive loyal to Member of Parliament Spencer, have refused to work with Waite.
The situation has been reportedly worsened by a poor relationship between
Waite and Spencer who were once close friends.
Spencer was rendered ineligible to contest the seat because of corruption charges related to the Cuban light bulb scandal which have been before the Courts for more than three years.
NE St Elizabeth is routinely considered one of the safest for the PNP in rural Jamaica.
