Severe winter conditions in Europe spark tourism interest in Jamaica

President of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) Wayne Cummings says the extreme weather being experienced in Europe has increased interest in Jamaica as a vacation [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]destination[/COLOR][/COLOR].
He says members of the association have reported receiving many enquiries as well as bookings from [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]holiday[/COLOR][/COLOR] makers in Europe.
Severe wintry weather has grounded flights since the weekend, trapping thousands of passengers travelling over Christmas.
Travellers heading for Jamaica have also been affected by the halt in air transportation out of Europe, especially the United Kingdom.
But Cummings says hoteliers are being accommodating to ensure that their clients are still able to enjoy a Jamaican [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]vacation[/COLOR][/COLOR].
Airport operators in the UK have defended their handling of the crisis amid criticism from the European Commission.
Officials of Heathrow airport in London and Frankfurt airport this morning said they were working to return operations to normal but that cancellations and delays are still likely.
