NAJ president blames Government for nurses migration
Nurses Association of Jamaica president, Edith Allwood-Anderson has blamed the longstanding wage dispute with the government for the increased migration of nurses.
According to Anderson, in 2009 close to 90 nurses left the University Hospital of the West Indies to take up overseas jobs.
The NAJ president says she has seen more resignations in the public sector in recent times compared with several years ago.
In addition to increased migration, the NAJ president says some nurses have also opted to take up a second job in order to survive.
In addition, she says the government has made no deliberate effort to implement incentives to retain 50 per cent of the nurses as recommended in a World Bank study.
