Waiver suspension good for Jamaica, says Tufton

DESPITE complaints from some quarters over Government's recent cutback on the granting of import waivers, Agriculture Minister Dr Christopher Tufton said the move is "good for Jamaica".
"Some people have been experiencing teething pains in that arrangement, but that is the agreement made by Cabinet and part of the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and... it's good for Jamaica. It may require consumers to pay an extra five per cent at the final price but it creates jobs, it preserves rural life and it will stimulate investment," Dr Tufton told Observer reporters and editors at the weekly Monday Exchange meeting at the newspaper's Beechwood Avenue offices in Kingston yesterday.
