At least one of the unions representing workers at the national carrier, Air Jamaica is casting some blame on the government for the financial state of the airline.
Speaking with RJR News on Sunday, Vice President of the National Workers' Union Granville Valentine suggested that the government has failed to honour its financial obligation to the airline.
He said the government should live up to its responsibility by paying debts it owes the carrier.
Mr. Valentine said many of the airline's problems can be laid at the governmnet's feet, fo r example, the losses due to giving free travel to politicians.
He said this costs the airline $30 to $50 million each year.
Mr. Valentine asserted that he is confident that the present industrial uncertainty can be overcome if the government, unions and management forge an agreement in the best interest of the company.
