Wisynco Group's director of marketing, Zachary Harding, will join the Ministry of Tourism as a consultant working on its marketing and investment initiatives Caribbean Business Report understands.
According to unconfirmed sources, he will be based in the junior ministry's office and will work with Jamaica Trade and Invest (formerly JAMPRO), and the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), in an effort to help to bolster the country's tourism product.
Harding is one of Jamaica's leading marketing executives with a stellar professional track record.
A former manager of Red Stripe, Zachary Harding successfully managed the Smirnoff Ice brand. He was quickly promoted to the position of Conversion Development Manager, where he had responsibility for developing, co-ordinating and implementing activities and promotions for Red Stripe's portfolio of brands. His area of focus was innovation and idea generation.
Prior to joining Red Stripe, Harding was a member of the Business Development team at Grace Kennedy Remittance Services. He has also served as marketing manager for Jamweb Internet Service, marketing & advertising manager for IMEX Technologies, and art production manager for Dunlop Corbin Communications. In his current role as Director of Marketing at the Wisynco Group, Harding makes strategic decisions for Wisynco's flagship brand and all of the country's product brands. He has helped to propel the company's Wata, Bigga, Ocean Spray and Coca-Cola brands into Jamaican household names.
It is understood that Harding's move to the Ministry of Tourism has the tacit approval of the board of the Wisynco Group and is now awaiting formal approval from the Ministry of Tourism. Harding will continue to be remunerated by the company with the understanding that there will be no conflict of interest.
Speaking with Caribbean Business Report last night Harding said: "If I were to be asked to join the Ministry of Tourism as a consultant I would see it as an opportunity to serve my country. Such a role would be a marketing challenge and would involve taking our tourism product to another level."
Harding served as a board member of the Jamaica Manufacturer's Association (JMA), and is currently the vice-chairman of the José Marti School board. He was an invited member of JAMPRO's Brand Jamaica committee responsible for developing the "Business Jamaica" brands as part of the Cricket Legacy Strategy.
Educated at Campion College, the University of the West Indies (UWI), and Canada's Ashbury College, Zachary Harding is married to Tamara Morin-Harding and has two daughters, Tori and Zara.
