  • WOMEN'S FOOTBALL! Barbican played with 10 man

Ten-man Barbican and Portmore Strikers played out an exciting 2-2 draw, while defending champions Harbour View and Waterhouse battled to a 0-0 draw in the Sherwin Williams Women's Premier League first-leg semi-finals at the Harbour View mini-stadium on Saturday.

Earlier in the 'A' League semi-finals, Trelawny Women upset Arnett Gardens 2-1, while Reno turned back St Catherine Upliftment 2-0.
In the opening Premier League match, Barbican, after losing Janice Renalls in the 36th minute to a red card for a foul on Venecia Reid, took the lead three minutes later through Nicole Berwise, latched onto a ball to shoot pass Peatria Campbell in the Portmore goal.
A minute later, Barbican were 2-0 up as Shanique Smith broke loose and slotted past Campbell at the near-post.
Six minutes into the second half, Rochelle Bryan's attempted cross inadvertently found its way into the net to give the Cornel Clarke-coached side a lifeline.
Then three minutes later, Reid found the equaliser after cutting inside a defender before firing a low shot past Nikkeisha Thomas in goal.
Both teams created a number of chances to grab the winner, but their efforts were tame.
Stand-in coach of Barbican, Junior Francis, thought his team showed character to go two up with 10 players.
"I think the two goals they scored were goalkeeping errors, but I think we did well to play most of the game with one short," he said.
Portmore coach, Cornel Clark, said his team was poor in the first half, and though they lifted their game in the second half, he said they still could have done better.
"We will have to come with our A game next week if we really want to beat this Barbican team," he stated.
In the second match, both teams were tighter defensively, therefore goal-scoring chances were few and far between.
However, in the second half Harbour View took the ascendancy and created numerous chances to hit the target, but failed to do so.
"I thought we played a good game, despite the fact that we did not score any goal, but we got our chances and did not put them away," said Harbour View boss Vin Blaine.
His counterpart, Marcel Gayle, said his players' hard work paid off.
"Harbour View are a very tactical team, but we played hard defensely and it showed in the result," he said.
In the 'A' League semis, Shanique Williams and Bernadette Mais scored in Trelawny Womens' win over Arnett Gardens.
Kerrian Squire was the scorer for Arnett, while Tracy Ann Hall missed a penalty for the 'Junglists'.
In the other game, Sashana Campbell scored with a curling shot from the edge of the area, while Simone Honeghan scored a disputed header to give Reno their win over St Catherine Upliftment.
The return games are set for next Saturday at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex starting at noon.
