lannyd Tyrone, Damani, Carl trilogy Wednesday, October 01, 2003, 7:52:12 PM IP:24.45.108.40
I am disappointed with some of the responses that I have read regarding the Tyrone “mi fellow Georgian” Marshall, Damani Ralph, and Carl Brown trilogy. Some have suggested that Tyrone should “never wear the yellow again” for purportedly advising Damani to play for the ‘States, without hearing directly from the parties involved and getting the full context in which the statement was made. (If Courtney’s statement was made based on his assessment of Marshall’s playing ability, then that is another issue to be debated at another time.)
Suppose Tyrone had said, “Damani if Carl doesn’t call you, and the USA call you then you may have to play for the USA.” I would fully endorse Marshall if he made such a statement, because many of us who left Jamaica, left because as much as we tried, Jamaica was not providing us with the opportunities to make progress. Still, we dearly love Jamaica, we support her (and Western Union’s stock) financially directly through remittances and consumption of her products, we watch the progress of her teams, we perpetuate her culture, and I could go on ad nauseam. Marshall’s statement ultimately did some good if it prompted Carl Brown to call Ralph, and that, I hope, may have been the motive of the two “conspiring” Georgians. I can't believe some are so gullible as to allow themselves to fall for the old 'divide and conquer' play by our enemies, the USA media.
In my view, the biggest culprit in all of this is Carl Brown, because, based on Damani’s representations that no one from the JFF had been in contact with him, Carl blatantly lied to the Jamaican public. And in his next public faux pas, the Kevon Harris saga, he showed clearly that his intention was to get back at the Santos organization for statements they made against the coaching staff rather to contact Harris.
If we allow Carl to openly lie to us while he overlooks some of the most talented Jamaicans playing in the USA, who are eager to represent us as their first choice, in his quest to bring on board UB40’s with questionable allegiance to “Yard” we will ultimately allow him to alienate many more of the intelligent Jamaican players who migrate to the USA, and this my fellow forumites will be a much bigger detriment to Jamaica’s football growth than Marshall’s statement in any context.
Still Brown’s failure to contact Ralph earlier and apprise Ralph of his intentions for him, is only a microcosm of (1) the bigger JFF problem of initiating and keeping contact with Jamaican players overseas. Are they in touch with McEachron (his stats are extremely impressive) at ODU, Deshaun Woolery at San Jacinto, Garnet Chisholm at MWSU, and others who, by their stats, are worthy of a look? If the answer is no, then this is the biggest failing of all.
Sidebar: Congrats to RBSC for maintaining the JA players in American Universities page.

You know LannyD, I usually never trust the media. It could be a situation that he might have advised the man to consider the USA if Jamaica does not come calling.
Frankly, I saw Damani here at Arrowhead in April against the KC Wizards. The moment I saw him, I came to this point and said that the man deserves to be in the national setup.
Well, I was advised by Courtney that Ralph falls way down in the pecking order behind many players ah yard.
Balla next was to follow saying that when Ralph was at Harbour View, he could not even make their first eleven. I guess that would say the man has not grown and therefore could not possibly warrant selection.
The way I see it, CB seems as if he preffers to call a Paul Hall tan explore the possibility of playing youth. Imagine, Micah Hyde, Goodison and Whitmore have been injured and not seen a game in weeks and in some cases months, but they get automatic call?!
I do not care how good Goodison is, if he has not plaed competitively for over six months and is just coming off injury, I wonder why he will be able to hold up to the might of the Brazilians? Whitmore. . . I will not touch him.
What has Hyde done lately? OK, if CB feels like calling England based ballers, what has happened to Damien Francis of Norwich City? There is a guy who could be the real stabilizing force in the midfield. We have to go back to the days of having a leader in the middle of the park. The roles played be Cargill and Simpson during the 1998 WC and before still needs to be filled. Is Cornell Chin-Sue not good enough to get a run against the Brazillians?
Anyway, I will follow this Brazilian game with interest.
