Solution found in Kelly's case
published: Friday | September 26, 2003

By Nodley Wright, Freelance Writer

IT WAS a win, win situation yesterday for all parties concerned in the Keith Kelly saga.

National midfielder Kelly got his wish to represent Arnett Gardens in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League, Harbour View's ownership of the player's rights were established and Arnett Gardens secured the services of the player for the one year they desired on a lone basis.

A release sent out by the Jamaica Football Federation which ruled on the situation through its competitions committee outlined their findings and decisions taken.

Among those findings and decisions were:

1. The player, according to the French Football Association was signed to Paris St. Germain as a non-amateur player from July 2001 to August 31, 2003. However, Harbour View, from whence the player originated, was not compensated by PSG according to a Memorandum of Understanding between the two clubs.

2 . The JFF will seek, through the offices of the French Football Federation, compensation from PSG on behalf of Harbour View.

3. The JFF will seek an International Clearance from French Football Federation, for the player on behalf of Harbour View.

4. Harbour View will loan the player to Arnett Gardens for a period of one year.

5. If after 30 days an international clearance is not forthcoming, the player will be released to play locally.

As a condition of the agreement reached between the parties prior to the issuing of the release, both clubs agreed not to comment on the matter.

Twenty-year-old Kelly was at the centre of a battle between Arnett Gardens and Harbour View since the beginning of the season after it emerged that both clubs registered the player to represent them. The matter was then placed in the hands of the JFF's competition's committee for arbitration.

Before a ruling was made the JFF gathered information from French club Paris Saint-Germain, the club to which Kelly was attached for three years following a move from Harbour View.
