Young Reggae Boyz tackle Guatemala Article from the Jamaica Observer - Friday, March 07, 2003
<IMG SRC="http://http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/sports/images/20030307T010000-0500_40717_OBS_YOUNG_REGGAE_BOYZ_TACKLE_GUATEMALA_1.jpg"> Keneil Moodie of Jamaica (right) disputes the ball with Freddy Adu of the US during their World Cup Under-17 CONCACAF qualifier in Guatemala City on Wednesday night. USA won the game 3-0.
Despite suffering a resounding 3-0 defeat to a seasoned United States team in the Under-17 World Cup qualifying tournament in Guatemala City on Wednesday night, Jamaica's chances of advancing to the finals in Finland are still intact.
This is because the other two teams in the four-team competition - El Salvador and Guatemala - cancelled out each other after playing to a 2-2 draw. At 9:00 o'clock tonight the Young Reggae Boyz tackle Guatemala and technical director, Carl Brown, is upbeat about his team's chances.
"Once we play our game we should be able to beat these teams," said Brown while watching the first half of the El Salvador-Guatemala match. "At half-time we tried to impress upon our players that this team (Guatemala) was beatable," Brown added.
A win against Guatemala would firmly put Jamaica in second place at the end of the night unless the Salvadoreans can pull off an upset of gigantic proportions by defeating the US. "Physically we couldn't cope with the Americans," said Brown. "Their defenders towered over our forwards who are just above five feet," he said.
