Western Bureau: THE MANAGEMENT OF Reno FC was returned to the original shareholders, headed by former president Frank 'Bim' Williams, at a meeting between the Westmoreland club and members of the Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF) hierarchy at Pelican Restaurant in Montego Bay last night.
Western Strikers Company Limited (WSCL) the company that funded and ran the club for the past three and a half seasons, was removed from the helm after it was disclosed they had assumed ownership of the club without permission of the legal owners, Reno Football Club Limited (RFCL).
Western Strikers was headed by Member of Parliament, Dr. Carl Blythe, and included six other shareholders including Carl Salmon, who had served as president of the club.
Starting immediately, the owners of RFCL, Williams who resides overseas, Wendell Downswell, Boysie Nicholson and Linval Wilson, will take over and decide the future of the club.
JFF vice-president David Watt, who was in attendance at the meeting, was delegated by Burrell to oversee the operations of the club and report to him "as often as is necessary".
The meeting had been called to resolve what was described as a "player revolt" but in a surprising turn of events, president of the JFF, Captain Horace Burrell, told the meeting at the start that unless the question of the ownership of the club was resolved, they would not get to the core of the problems.
The tough-talking Burell said he was not prepared "to put a band aid over the problem" but would resort to tougher measurers if necessary and remove the limb if needed to get to the problem.
Reno missed Sunday's NPL game away to Tivoli after the players decided they would not be playing under the present management team. It is understood that a problem between a senior player and a member of the management team had precipitated the player walkout. This was, however, denied by the parties.
Burrell who chaired the just over an hour long meeting told the meeting that while Blythe must be strongly commended for the action he took in taking over the club while it was in financial problems, he could not attach conditions of ownership to the agreement.
The JFF boss urged Blythe and other business interests to stand by the team and not to withdraw their support.
Downswell, who represented the original owners of the club along with Nicholson, presented documents showing that the club had been registered in January 1994 with Williams as the principal shareholder.
The meeting also heard that another attempt was made after the Blythe group took over to register the club but found it was already registered and formed WSCL as a holding company to manage the club.
Salmon said his team had taken over after Williams "left the club to die".
Burrell said, however, they had taken over the club without permission of the legal owners and that act was illegal.
Salmon did not mince words after the meeting, however, telling STAR Sports he thought it was "a conspiracy" and questioned Burrell's integrity.
"We thought the captain was a man of integrity. However, we were proven wrong today as we thought he was a man who upholds discipline."
Salmon said that after three years and nine months of his group being in charge of the club but because of the "immense indiscipline that stepped in the club, now is the time he is going to raise the issue of indiscipline."
Salmon said they were called to a meeting to discuss the problems in the club only to be faced with a discussion of ownership.
"We were not prepared to discuss ownership and it is clear that there is some favouritism here."
The former president said categorically his team would have nothing to do with the club.
"No no no," he said, "we don't support the indiscipline that exist and therefore we won't be involved," he said.
Burrell told the meting that sanctions would still be taken against Reno for not turning up for the Tivoli game, but added that it was up to the Competitions Committee, some of whom were at the meeting.
Downswell meantime told STAR Sports the management would meet later today to make an announcement as to the coaching staff and other details.
