U-23 footballers falter at CAC Games Observer Reporter Thursday, November 28, 2002
SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (CMC) -- Jamaica's footballers faltered in their Group Three opener at the 19th Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games here on Tuesday night.
Down to 10 men early in the second half, the young Reggae Boyz crashed to a 3-0 defeat to Honduras.
Vinel Chamorro headed through a wall of defenders to beat Jamaican goalkeeper, Allien Whittaker, to give Honduras an 11th-minute lead, and Ronald Maradiaga added further strikes in the 48th and 65th minutes, after Jamaican forward, Fabian Dawkins, was sent off in the 46th for a second bookable offence.
Haiti, meanwhile, dismissed Guatemala, 3-2, to jump to the top of the Group One standings. Haiti secured the win with a late goal by substitute, Fucien Brunel, to lead the group -- on goal difference over Guatemala -- with three points
