We are about to see the start of the National Premier League. We are also awaiting the start of the Schoolboy Manning and DaCosta Cup competitions.

Bring them on!

The JFF has already started on molding team for a run at qualifying for the 2006 WC. One would expect that the upcoming rebuilding exercises will, hopefully, create a World Cup bound Reggae Boyz team, ...will result in some of those in this season’s NPL and Schoolboys leagues maturing to international standard.

This brings me to think of the unmentioned role of those who would prepare those NPL and Schoolboy charges.

What responsibility do these persons charged with the task of making “footballers” of the “charges” mentioned above have?

I believe besides preparing to win the NPL, Manning or DaCosta Cup or any other trophy at stake, or preparing for the selfish club or school goal, there is also a national responsibility.

That responsibility has many sides to it. An example could be the turning out of, the euphemistically “well rounded” individuals to take a meaningful place in, and play a future meaningful role in our society.

Specifically, is there some responsibility to prepare the team players to be the very best footballers they can be? I think so!

If past seasons are anything to go by very few of those charged to prepare these teams would have focused on preparing TEAM and therefore the individual unit to be the very best it could possible be.

It it were so, why have we not ever seen the majority of the teams in any of our competitions playing TEAM? Why is it at the end of the season so many representative groups appear to be still trying to grasp the fundamentals of cohesive play?

At the end of the season some persons would describe some of these team members as strangers to each other. The play was still disjointed at season's end.

The group, that had been together throughout a long season and many matches, had just not become TEAM.

Obviously that concept of TEAM was not being emphasized by the “teachers” and or learnt by players.

So the follow up question would be, why do we expect our locally NPL and schoolboys nurtured Reggae Boyz to play, displaying to the Massive, TEAM?

Truth is as things presently stand the Massive shouldn’t expect that TEAM display. The players have not been exposed to such a concept throughout their playing days.

I think we would all agree that the players entering our national teams should be well versed in the vital necessity for national units to play TEAM. Certainly we all know that every team that has ever been at the top of the world has played TEAM.

Back to those who are responsible for preparing our NPL and Schoolboys teams – What responsibility do they bear for the quality of our national teams?

How do we bring the realization to them that they are letting down their charges, teams/institutions and displaying before the Massive their exceeding high level of incompetence?

Just imagine a great many number of “coaches, etc.” basking in what they believe is a job well done, while unknowingly glorifying in their incompetence? Do you think if they are not made to realize their failures and the corrective measures available, they would present “TEAMS” and thus, there would soon be an increase in standards of play? ….and all things being equal national teams displaying increasing higher standards of play?

Do you think……..??????

I believe if you do not understand the "TEAM concept" and cannot play "TEAM" you really are not a footballer.

After all is said and done isn't it TEAM(s) that succeeds? Isn't it within TEAM framework that stars are born?

Any NPL and or Schoolboy "support group" that cannot produce TEAM has failed... failed us all!

"Support group"? Spanners in di wok!
