The JFF has decided that the ‘A’ League no longer serves its purpose of a developmental league for those clubs aspiring for promotion to the Premier League and will therefore be discontinued. Also, financially it was becoming a burden on most of the clubs, as their budget is almost equal to the Premier League teams, but they have fewer opportunities to make returns on their investments. The inaugural Wray and Nephew Premier League will accommodate two more teams, taking the total to twelve, inclusive of Bull Bay and Rivoli United who were promoted from the ‘A’ League. This is providing the four new teams meet the JFF playing criteria: proper playfield with stands, turnstyles, perimeter fencing, pre-season medical, medical staff, PA System etc.
To determine the two teams that will pre-qualify for the inaugural Wray and Nephew Premier League, the following teams will be involved in a playoff starting June 9. The draw was done at the JFF Secretariat yesterday:
Rounds 1&2 - June 9 & 16: Santos vs. Reno, Platinum vs Seba, Western Confederation Representative vs Duhaney Park, Lewis Strikers vs Mount Salem, Frome vs Axum, Olympic Gardens vs Marverley, Central Link vs Brazil. Home teams named first. The return games will be played on June 16.
Rounds 3&4 will be played on June 19 and 23, while the final rounds will be played on June 26 and 30TH. The draw for Rounds 3,4,5 and 6 will take place at the JFF on June 17.
