CONCACAF FA licence course in March
Newsday Report.
A two-week Football Association (FA) International Coaching Licence, sponsored by the English FA, will take place for the first time in the Football Confederation (CONCACAF) region at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya, Tunapuna, in March.
The event is among a variety of training courses and workshops organised by the CONCACAF Development Programme this year. The three-year programme is the brainchild of CONCACAF president and FIFA vice-president Austin Jack Warner, and is a part of a long-term developmental plan to uplift football in the Caribbean. According to CONCACAF Director of Development Richard Braithwaite, "this is a wonderful opportunity for coaches in the CONCACAF area and in particular the Caribbean, to obtain a world-class coaching licence that has international acceptance."
He continued, "The CONCACAF Development Programme was implemented to enhance the level of expertise throughout the region and we are very pleased with the response from the various associations. "Our programme last year trained over 350 persons and we intend to increase that number this year." Previous graduates had to travel to Lilleshall, England, to obtain certificates from the programme. Next month, the 2002 edition of the programme will begin with an Introduction to Sports Medicine Course for national coaches and trainers throughout CONCACAF. An advanced marketing and general administration workshop for regional football administrators is also on the agenda, dealing with marketing principles and practices, financial planning, effective administration, personnel management and re-structuring for development.
And in September, they will host a symposium on the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea which takes place in June, with top local football personalities airing their views on the technical and tactical issues of the tournament. Other courses planned for this year include sessions on women football, goalkeeper coaching, youth development and referees.
