FanAttick Disappointed with the Rboyz Forum massive Fri Dec 7 07:08:20 2001
I am disappointed with the reaction of the majority of forumites to the appointment of Carl Brown as Jamaica's TD. The spontaneous reaction was one of bitter disappointment. Although I understand that people were psyching themselves up for us to get a "BIG TIME, BIG NAME" TD like Rikaard, Gullit, the Romanian etc, truth be told Carl Brown is the right man for the job-AT THIS TIME.
1.APPEAL:Given our failure to qualify for 2002(under a foreigner Clovis) reality is that we are not as attractive a marketing product as we were 4 years ago. Very few, if any big time coaches(especially Europeans) would be willing to invest the time and make the sacrifice necessary to carry us to a world cup 2006 almost 5 years away. Furthermore we dont have the facilities(infrastructure) to encourage the interest of the so-called "BIG TIMERS".
2.AFFORDABILITY: In order for us to mask the issue listed in point 1, we would have to fork out some BIG TIME BREADS. Given the obvious financial issues that are afflicting the JFF it is unlikely that they could afford to pay the salary of a BIG TIME TD. The return on this investment(in a BIG TIME TD) is shaky at best, and the "PAYBACK PERIOD" is too long(minimum 5 years) to justify the initial financial outlay. Furthermore, the JFF cannot count on receiving any additional funding from the PJ government, who are themselves locked in a desperate struggle for survival in the upcoming general elections. There is virtually no public relations bonanza to be gained by the government in the next year and a half(a critical period for them) given that the Boyz will not be involved in any meaningful competitions like the Gold Cup or World Cup Qualifiers. PJ and his cronies could not piggyback on successes of the Boyz to carry themselves to victory at the polls. They will have to find alternatives(like Highway 2000:-) So they are unwilling to pump additional funds into the program(at this time). The captain's bakery alone cant make up the slack.
3.COMPETENCE: Brown's track record speaks for itself. Gold Cup, Shell Cup, on his own, and numerous WCQ's as assistant to Simoes and Clovis, plus the last 2 on his own. Brown has been with the program from its inception. He knows the players. He has been there, done that. Very few of the much vaunted "BIG TIME COACHES" can boast Carl's quantum of "INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE". From the inception the justification for investing in Simoes, included development of local coaches. Carl is a graduate of the Simoes school!
4.COMMITMENT: No one can question Carl's dedicatioN to the program or accuse him of doing it "ONLY FOR THE MONEY". He has stuck with if for his entire life!
So my fellow forumites, it's time to give the man your "FULL SUPPORT".
