Many are asking if Carl will be able to attract quality practice matches for the team. My question is, should this be Carl's responsibility or should this be the responsibility of the JFF? As much as Simoes did organize practice matches (or it may appear so to most of us), the JFF will have to play a greater roll in facilitating the team and the program in this endeavor.
Another area is the seeking of sponsorship for the team. This should not fall under the portfolio of the TD, albeit Simoes made it part of his duty when he headed the program.
Hopefully, with the money we are saving from not bringing in a big name TD, we should be able to pay Carl and have enough left to do some other things. Hopefully, Carl will learn some tact and not hang some of his players out to dry in public, as he is known for doing.
I take it his first test will start with the CFU competition. That I am sure will take place after the Gold Cup in February 2002? Correct me if I am wrong.
For all those disappointed with Carl's appointment, I just say give the man a chance. Carl like many of us in our respective jobs and careers might only need an opportunity to really "bus out" as a damn good TD. My only hope is that he is given the autonomy to call the shots, and he is not just being used as a pawn by Capt Burrell until he finds his choice TD.
