Project Germany 2006 and Beyond. As presented by Rene Simoes, Technical Director
The Project Germany 2006 and beyond is daring to say the least. It is not a project for the weak minded or quitters. It is a strong plan that will unquestionably take football to a new level in Trinidad and Tobago. It is easy to doubt such a project, however, as I see the construction of new stadia, the Dr. Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, the growing interest surrounding football in the twin islands, and especially the success of the U-17 World Cup, I am certain that this project is being presented at the right place and time. My confidence that we can together achieve every single objective proposed herein is unshaken by my knowledge that obstacles come and sacrifices will be made.
Such daring project is costly, and the need for more sponsors is inevitable. I recommend the presentation of this project, once it is revised, to businesses in the nation. Football is a product that generates a tremendous profit and publicity for sponsors and partners. This project can change the kinds of companies that believe football is not a safe or lucrative investment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Specific Objectives * Identify, catalogue and interview all players who show potential to be members of the national teams. * Build the centre for the technical, tactical, and physical formation and improvement of national players,. The National Training Centre, where players who are approved will develop and improve * Implement a sole game philosophy for all national teams * Establish acceptable habits and attitudes for players and staff members of the different national teams * Create a unifying line connecting technical staff members from the different national teams, ensuring continuity in the work developed * Distinguish a hierarchy and a clear chain of communication between the staff members of the TTFF * Establish norms for the functioning of each sector and staff member of the TTFF * Determine the target number of games each national team should play both in years when no qualifiers are played and in years when world cup qualifiers are played * Develop a four level coaching course * Create criteria for licensing coaches for schools, clubs and national teams * Restructure school's competitions * Restructure women's football * Restructure the Professional Football League * Create U-13 and U-15 national teams * Launch U-13, U-15 and U-17 national tournaments * Create a Youth Development Programme * Build a laboratory for the sciences involved in football (physiotherapy, nutrition, psychology, physiology).
Methodology * Search, through the Scout team, for talented players wherever they may be * Divide Trinidad and Tobago into quadrants and establish areas of observation in each * The Head Scout, who will have two assistants at the national level, will coordinate the Scout team * Each Regional Association will be assigned a Scout * Players who show potential to become national players will be interviewed and photographed * All registered scouts will receive proper identification allowing free entrance to all games organized under the sanction of the TTFF

From Portia's Archives Here it is...."Goodbye to Jamaica" by Prof. Simoes Wed Nov 21 11:03:28 2001
Me-xxx Sir Rene Simoes Farewell letter to Jamaica Wed Feb 23 21:19:48 2000
Dear Jamaicans,
For five (5) years you have allowed me to become a part of your life, introduced me to your minds and hearts. Together, we have laughed, cried, fought for a cause, talked, lived intensely and above all dreamt. We dreamt that a Jamaican team could make it to the World Cup, we dreamt that a nation could come as one and forget political differences for a common cause. We dreamt that for an extra-ordinary moment a football team could bring poor, rich; black, white; believers, non-believers; etc. together, that they all could be wearing the same shirt of hope, peace, happiness and dreams. Thanks to you I have seen this dream come true.
So it is with a sad, yet certain heart that I must say goodbye… My family and I tend to live our moments very intensely, and no other times have meant as much as our five years in Jamaica. Today, we are better human beings; different and improved because of the amazing opportunity that Jamaica gave us.
My days in Jamaica were marked by mutual respect, love and admiration between a great majority of Jamaicans and myself. This has been my oxygen to keep on moving for 5 years and 4 months. However, there has always been a loud and insistent minority, who is frustrated with their own limits and never accepted that the dream became a reality, making a cultivated blindness the basis of their attacks and criticisms that ranged from questioning my status in Brazil, my intentions in Jamaica to attempts to ridicule me on job offers that I received or inventing player selections. I realize that this is a part of football and of life, but I have to answer to those criticisms because I understand that you Jamaican cannot be manipulated by this loud and frustrated minority.
It is hard to one day hear a journalist that used to call me every morning, sometimes while I was still asleep, say that I am his ‘brother’ only to see that after one discussion we had he was calling me a big liar. It is hard to read another journalist’s article describing me with terms such as, ‘diminutive Brazilian…with crooked nose…over emphasized mustache…” It is difficult for me to read a biased article that criticized my “Jesus Saves” citing all the apparently bad things that “Jesus Saves” has done to Carl Brown and Alan Cole, without knowing both sides of the coin. I do not mind criticism, but when it is constructive, jaded with the intention of analyzing all sides and finding a better way to go about things. There have been numerous constructive criticisms and I have listened and learned from them. But if you have ever been unjustly criticized, if your children have read days after days articles that are not true about you, while all along you have acted like a true human being without the fear to admit when you are wrong then you know what I mean. But I have faced this without fear; with pride, courage and determination always.
Am I leaving because of that? No, I am leaving because after my surgery, I became more sensitive, more human, more connected to my family. I see everyone in a more beautiful way. I leave because I miss Fatima constantly now, since Bea and Renata are in Miami, she has to stay with Leticia and I have to travel alone all the time. I leave because my parents have limited days on this earth and I want to be near them especially when the end looks so close. I leave because I cannot miss the opportunity to administer a team that has 35 million fans in Brazil. I leave with the feeling that my mission here has been accomplished and that it is time for some-one else to take over.
However, I already miss the things that I love about this country and my life here. I miss Captain Burrell, and his unique way to never accept a ‘no’, his capacity to undertake so many criticisms about money and ability to stay strong for his dream and his country. I already miss my workaholic friend, Horace Reid, a brave, intelligent man who will know just how to continue administering the Federation. I’ll miss the people that work at the JFF, the happy atmosphere of the garden in my house, where the roses are always blooming. I’ll miss the players, their skills and their problems. I’ll miss my office (the stadium). I’ll miss my street friends that are in front of the JFF everyday. I’ll miss hearing potties, the steering wheel on the right, the sun, the vibrant people and everyone who has been with me, be it in person or with just a positive thought.
I hope that you know what kind of wonderful transformations you have made on the world with your music, your customs, your uniqueness, and… your smile. I hope that one day you can understand at least a fraction of how much Jamaica and Jamaicans mean to me.
Please remember that the dream of the Reggae Boyz didn’t start with me, but with Captain Burrell. I am a mere piece of the whole and as I leave more will come. The dream continues full force.
Thank you, for making this a land that I truly love, where I leave a piece of me. Jamaica will be registered in my curriculum for the rest of my professional life, but Jamaicans are in my heart forever.
May God Bless and Protect you.
Rene Simoes
