I spoke to my elder kin “first night” and he told me that he visited some of the areas in west Portland that were badly affected by the floods. He told me that the damage and losses maybe largely understated in the media. The people are very much in need. The people are getting food but also need utensils, sheets, towels and other household items. A lot of people, he said, lost everything including there houses and in some cases businesses. Many people are still living in schools.
I rounded up a few items in my surroundings that I think can help a bit and I have made contact with the Jamaican Consulate in NY to find out how the items can be received without charges and how they can be shipped without or at minimum charges.
I am now appealing to you, especially those of you from the east, to extend a helping hand to these needy people. I am trying to coordinate this effort through the RBSC. However, if you wish to go at it alone you can contact Franz Hall at the Consul Generals office @ 212-935-9000 for info on the waiver of custom charges and the Director of Community affairs at Air Jamaica @718-830-0622 for freight charges waiver or reduction. If you wish to be a part of the coordinated effort please contact me at the_emperor@reggaeboyzsc.com or at 800-272-8366 ext 261.
