Breaking News By: Shaun Fuentes.
Trinidad and Tobago could end up with the opportunity to play warm-up matches against the likes of England, Scotland and Denmark later this year in preparations for the 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Recently reports of a match against Demark was relayed but according to FIFA Vice President Jack Warner, matches against England, Scotland and other countries that have already secured berths for the 2002 World Cup, could be reality as efforts are currently be made to have these arranged.
"What we are looking to achieve is some matches for our senior team to get them ready for the Gold Cup. We are talking to countries like Denmark, Scotland and England and these countries that have already qualified for the World Cup. Very soon we shall see what games we have," said Warner.
Warner, special advisor the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation, also had some good words to say about the work of Rene Simoes and his assistants.
"The technical staff members are doing their best with limited resources. We don't have enough funding at this present time. But of course that will come. One of the biggest assets to football here is Simoes himself. I think once we have patience, we shall achieve," said Warner.
Simoes also mentioned that he intends to play matches against Guatemala and Venezuela as TnT prepared for the Gold Cup which is scheduled to run from January 18 to February 18, 2002 in the United States.
The German national under 23 team is also expected to come here for three matches next January. According to FCOTT CEO Peter Miller, the Germans will play three matches against a T&T Under 23 team at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Manny Ramjohn Stadium and Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Miller added that there has been a lot of interest from overseas clubs to come here for training camps.
"Obviously there has been a lot of interest from clubs like Newcastle for instance. When they were here last year, there biggest concern was the state of the pitches. But now they understand the developments that have taken place here and they are keen to come back next year," said Miller.
He mentioned that Scottish clubs Falkirk and Aberdeen have also enquired about coming here for matches.
" I would also like to see a South American club come here because of the technical staff we have here and also because of the interest in south American football there is now," said Miller.
L-Sporto are also arranging to have Ghana club champions Young Hearts and Arnett Gardens of Jamaica come to T&T for matches around the PFL preseason period in 2002. New England Revolution and Miami Fusion of the MLS have also spoken of their desires to come and play games in this country," added Miller.

Soca Warriors For Ever.
God Bless.
