First, my condolences to all the victims/families and friends who were affected by the recent terriost attacks on the USA. It was indeed an attack on all of us, and will no doubt have a lasting effect on us all for months and years to come. But through it all, keep the faith and my the God bless and have mercy upon us all, even our attackers.
Lets now turn our attention, even for a minute, to football.
The schoolboy football season just got underway...cannot see anything about Ardenne as yet...the sleeping giant will soon arise and crush every and anything that gets in it's way. It is just a matter of time...and immediately I must raise a couple of issues:
1) Students not representing their schools becuase of limited CXC passes.
I have a problem with this, not saying an academic standard shouldn't be set, but it seems as if it varies from one school to the next. Case in point, Munro and Portmorant High (not sure of the latter). It was reported that a number of players were not allowed to return to Munro--not sure it they meant the Manning Cup team or the school itself (If it's not to the school, them that would be bad)--because the failed to pass at least six subjects. The school based in Portland had to pull out of the Dacosta Cup all together because a number of their returning players had not passed the required four subjects. Now seeing the irregularities between both schools, I believe a national standard should be set. Munro requires six. I think that is a bit too high. Also, I don't think all the emphasis should soley be based on the number of subjects passed, but should take into account the students year-round performance. Therefore, school reports, attandance ect. should also be taken into account along with whatever financial burden that they may face.
What should be the national standard? I say three or four.
A remember I player, in my days when I attended the wonderful Ardenne:-) who went by the alias, Goofy. He was from Franklyn Town and represented the school at the Pepsi and Colts level. He, however, was not as fortunate as some and could only sit two subjects because of financial constraints. Also, academically, he wasn't the most accomplished student a teacher could have had. But I knew that everyday after school he had to be with his parents, be it uptown or downtown, selling just about anything that his dad could hustle up. He did his school and turn in whatever projects were given. I remebered he was not allowed to try out for the Manning Cup team, since fourth form, and that had a devastating effect on him, because he was really trying and also playing football was a long time dream of his. What is he doing now? I don't know. But should we turn these kids on the streets because they may not have achived a certain number of subjects? Then what?
2) The way how the schoolboy competition is setup. I notice that 30-plus schools were listed for the Manning Cup and or 60 for the Dacosta Cup. Now should a school in Claredon be in the same group with a team from Montego Bay, or vice versa? I know it is tradition--Manning and Dacosta Cup--but should we align the schools based on the County in which those schools fall. Therefore, Cornwall, Middlesex and Surrey. I rember a year or two ago, a school from Portland was disqualified becuase they could not make the cross country trip to play another school. The school complained, I believe, that the trip was either two long or expensive. Not quite sure. If not County, then should make sure that teams within the same group are geographically close to each other.
Congratulations:
Big up to Arnett Gardens FC. It was recently reported that they were constructing a new 2000 seat stand, and also installing lighting to the facility.
Tivoli Gardens FC must also be congruatulated for the building of a new club house. The new club house features a gymnasium, player lounge and a Medical area. With the rumored signing of "Teddy" to Bolton, lets hope that Tivoli will use some of that money and continue to upgrade its facility.
Finally, more local clubs should be encourage to have a website. For obvious reasons.

Putas, why are you sending me to dig for oil in Jamaica:-)?
Boss, if I could, you wouldn't even affi ask, since it would have been done a long time ago.
The little info that I have is what I get from the Observer and Gleaner, and from one or two youths that are based in Jamaica. Anyway, Cornwall and Munro are the pre-tournament favorites--Clarendon College should give a good account of themselves, but Montego Bay Comprehensive, from all indications, wasn't being given much of a chance at all. Expect Frome (Westmoreland) and Ruseas to give Cornwall and company a good run for their money.
It is very unfortuante that the JFF website doesn't contain more info on shoolboy football. In fact, I doubt if it contain any at all. Such a pity.

Truth is the RBSC, Jamaica should be supplying this information...and NPL info out of Jamaica...to the RBSC website....or some other method of getting the info must be found.
Regardless of what is said about our "programme" the schools must be an integral part of it. those who would ignore the schools are living in a dream world. What should be immediately tackled is "proper world class training" for those coaches in this area.

Put it like this Charmin
Teams like Cornwall, Clarendon, Vere, STETHS etc are year to year contendors. However with the realignment of the zones Serie A(aka Zone A) has been weakened and I fear that the western teams are not as prepared for the interzone round as years gone
