As Karl says:-

Bibi is having an excellent season at left back. He breaks up attacks. He initiates counter attacks. He finishes attacks. The problems of the team stems from underpreparedness. There is a disjointedness that can be cured by playing numerous games together over a sustained period. The JFF leaders did not recognise this. Unfortunately the Reggae Boyz are paying the penalty for that faulty leadership. The only measure I would now suggest is instructing our players to run our offense through the middle--Whitmore and or Andy. At this moment no major changes.

I still cannot see how you want to have Gardner playing defense? We have to maximize on the potential of our players, or we will always be having a team which constantly underperforms.

My question to you Karl, do you not think that each time Gardner comes home, he has to make a mental adjustment to play wingback, as opposed to playing left midfield as he is doing for his club? Do you realize that in his almost three seasons with Bolton, he has never been used to play defense? Bolton say that with his speed, ball handling capabilities and vision for the game, he would better serve them in attack. Why do we force the man to play defense then?

I am sure that if we were to push Gardner up to midfield, we could bring in another player to fill that void, and he would not be missed in the defense. Gardner's strongest aaassets are not his defensive skills! When he has to make his runs up the flanks, it usually leaves the back door open on the left, and it ultimately hurts us.

We need to do something fast, as it is obvious that what we are doing at this time is not working.

Tilla: I will duck your post by taking only one section "...when he makes his runs...he leaves our backdoor open".

The backdoor is left open because the other players are exhibiting a lack of appreciation for the game. In this era of international football the team rotates as per the flow of an amoeba. As a player moves on the field a natural rotation of the whole fills any gap.

If Bibi ended up on the right wing forward position during an attack a rotation whould have every position he goes through filled by a player... and just to be clear, not necessarily by the player who started in each or any of those positions.

His going up the wing in attack is not a/the problem. It is the flow of the team/'amoeba' that is the problem. One word - UNDERPREPARED!

Karl: I know that you know better than just picking on one sentence of my post to base your argument? What happen to my comments that he will serve us better in attack, what about the fact that he has to make the adjustment from what is now his natural position (midfield general), to play wing back for us? It is like Brazil taking Rivaldo out of his natural position and the position he now plays at club level week in week out and confine him to a position he used to play years ago.

Gardner's game has grown beyond the wing back position at this time. He will contribute more to the team if we move him to the midfield.

You have made a good point about other players covering for him when he makes his runs. The problem is, our game suffers from a difficency in that aspect of the game.

I must now agree with the idea of moving Bibi from defense to midfield.

Clovis is a Brasilian, and so it might be embedded in him to use the backs the way the Brasilians do--Overlap or basically as midfield players. It works for Brasil because the other defenders and midfield players will try to cover for the overlapping backs. Not so in our system at this time.

Gentlemen, what you see from Brasil and others is the way how football is played in those countries, even in the pick-up games. That is not the way it is in Jamaica. Our defenders, and for that matter our players, do not support each other well and often enough for that style--Overlapping wingbacks--to work, at this time, in Jamaica. Therefore, Clovis needs to now make the necessary adjustments that suit our style of play.

Also, I do think it affects Bibi--Playing an attacker in England and a defender in Jamaica. It also must damage his physce knowing that he his the one on the receiving end instead of the other way around. (I still, however beleive that it was poor defending/man-marking that lead to Blanco's two goals.

At home we should be taking on a more attacking formation. Therefore, we should be using two attacking midfield player instead of one. On the road at least I could understand the need for two defensive midfield players. I know Clovis took our game a notch or two up. I still think that we have the capacity to go a few more notches higher.

Strangely, I am not nervous at all. Maybe I have surrendered, but I think not. I honestly believe that we can defeat those high-riding Hondurans in their own backyard. All we have to do commit ourselves to the task and play for a full ninety minutes.

Respect and irie ites!

How can I argue against using Bibi in the position he occupies 'everyday'. Especially so, as he excels in that role.

I agree he would go a good job in the middle...but, who else do we have to occupy his position...unless you are suggesting a move for Marshall to left back and Marco on the right.

In such a team the midfielders would be Tappa in the middle with Bibi on his left and Jamie on his right. Andy would sub.
