Karl: My starting 11 would be like this.
****************Lawrance****************
**************Chris Dawes****************
*****Dixon******** Sinclair******Marshall
***Jamie****Whitmore****Gardener******Simpson
**********Hayles***Lowe**********
I would play Dawes instead of Shavar. I think that Dawes is more experienced and is getting quality competition form playing in the MLS. Yes Shatta, I said it, quality competition from playing in the MLS. Believe it or not. I would give him the nod at sweeper over Shavar at this time.
I would switch Marshall to the left back position, and move Bibi to the middle. With Jamie and Simpson playing defensive mid, we would leave Gardner and Whitmore to do the playmaking.
Up front, I would say use Nandi because of his size and power when he has the ball. The TD needs to remind him that football is a team sport and he should include his teammates in the game. I have seen Nandi make some beautiful plays here in KC at Arrowhead when he includes his teammates. I hope he carries that to our team.
The other forward, is a choice between Burton and Hayles. I would play Hayles as at present he is the in-form striker for his team Fulham. He was also among the goals in his last match against Sunderland(?)
If we start with a formation like you have suggested, we are asking for trouble. We would be basically playing five in defense, and that is not the way to approach a game you want to win. Games are won and lost in the midfield, hence it is important that we have the ammunition to match or out do the Mexicans in this area.
That is my take for now.

Our teams are not too dissimilar. In fact, there is a change of personel at two positions...and Sinclair comes in for Andy.
Sweeper - Shavar/Dawes....and Forward - Lowe and Hayles as opposed to Burton and Hayles. You have pushed Bibi into the midfield and switched Marshall to left back and that may shift your attack.
Bibi will support our midfield and forwards regardless of where he plays. However, putting Bibi and Marshall two players who have the same penchant for attacking, on the same side of the field, could leave great holes for the Mexicans to penetrate.
My take on our play so far is our defense is not as compact as the '98 team's...and needs shoring up. Marshall should remain on the right and Bibi on the left and a sweeper brought in. The rest of the team remains the same.
Lowe sits because he does not play a 'team game'. However, it is hoped that watching the interplay of Burton and Hayles would bring out that aspect of his game. He would if necessary be brought on during the game to bring his strength on the ball, his speed, his powerful shot and would actually engage in team play as he would have seen the benefits of such actions watching burton and Hayles.
I would also like to point out that those calling for Andy's head should review the tapes of matches in this round. Andy has time and time again been the person making the killer pass to Lowe and Burton. Surely he cannot be blamed if 90% of his goalscoring set-up passes come to naught because of the forwards inability to finish. As our forwards come to 'boil' those passes become more and more potent as goals become the end product.
Just how I see it!
Respect!

Karl, you said it, Bibi has a penchant for attack. The man is not a defender, as a matter of fact it is nomore his natural playing position. Bolton has seen it ft to take advantage of the man's attacking prowess, why do we insist on playing him in the back.
There is no doubt that he will play wherever you put him. Playing him in an attacking midfield position, will relieve him of the defensive responsibilities and make him more of a terror in the Mexican's side.
As for Marshall, he is naturally a left footed player, playing on the right. Alright, if you want to shore up the defense, bring in Marco McDonald for Marshall. Bibi go to the middle.
It really defies logic why we insist on playing Bibi in defense, when he is such a potent attacking force for any team? I guess Rene wrote the script, so it must be followed?
I say our best defense is offense. Whitmore and Bibi as attacking midfielders in the middle. Hyde, Williams and Powell waiting in the wings.

Good selection from both of you. However, I have been calling for Bibi in the midfield for a long time.

Bibi will not be used in the midfield so I suggest we all get used to it. I have given up hope on our coaches even once TRYING this out.(it will kill them to try)
Also Lowe will learn when Lowe is benched and if we are too scared to bench him for the first half until he gets the message then we are only hurting ourselves.
The only way forward for Lowe and Andy Williams is competition and no nonsense. They are two top quality players who both have the potential to play in the top leagues abroad but they think too highly of themselves as they currently are right now and are both too complacent.
Jermaine Johnson on TV in the premiership will do wonders for their egos I can't wait for that day. Jermaine premier will have a larger impact on these STAR players than we except. Nuff man will raise their game and expectations. Now MLS won't be enough, me glad bag a buss.
Anyhow I am just hoping for a win as I don't really feel the vibes to even name a team. I will be in front of the telly holding out hope

well u all make some good points. But i would keep playing Bibi where he is. The reason why he plays winger is his speed. When he gets the ball in the defence he can bring up on front faster on the wing than in Midfield. The reason Bolton doesnt us him in that aspect is they have superd defenders which frees him up to roam around the midfield and not have to run back too much.
If tappa stays in form, he will take over the game.
In defense i would give the nod to Chris Dawes over Shavar Thomas

Carl Brown said something similar. I agree with both of you...with the understanding that the Reggae Boyz must stand as one...i.e. all the players 'round' Tappa will have to stand firm/step up/rise to the occasion.

Has Tappa arrived home as yet? I worry when Carl single out someone as I see ulterior motives at work here. Let us hope for the best.
Has Tappa arrived as yet for the game?

I think Lowe is being unfairly targeted for his past reluctance to tackle and lack of off the ball movements. Our ace striker has improved and if anything needs fixing it has to be the remaining forwards and our formation.
Blessed

Respect the thoughts on Lowe. He is without doubt our most effect goalscoring option. he is without doubt a handful for defenders.
But, it is all about doing your best for the team. We, (certainly I am) are all about encouraging him to maximize his value to the team. It certainly is not fair if someone of lesser ability is giving "FULL 100" and he is not doing the same thing.
He must move and look for the more advantageously placed teammate. That will do three things immediately. 1. His markers will now have to devide their atttention between a) just trying to stop 'Nandi, himself from getting a shot off and b) trying to cut out his passes. 2. It will open acres of space for him and his teammates to get a 'look in' at goal. 3. It will give the team as a whole MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO SCORE GOALS.
It follows from the above the REGGAE BOYZ WILL HAVE A GREATER CHANCE TO WIN MATCHES.
'Nandi must give his team and himself greater chances at winning. When the Reggae Boyz do not win...'Nandi does not win.

Your selected side might be identical to Clovis' ith the exception of Hayles. Hayles would come in as a sub. for Burton as Clovis will start Lowe. I still can't understand how you were able to get Thomas, Frank and Dixon starting together(love it though).
