New York has recruited Teachers from the Caribbean and have made no provisions for their housing needs.
The understanding derived on speaking with a few of the recruits is they were told, prior to leaving their island homes, that their housing needs would be met.
Low and behold after arriving in New York they are housed for two weeks and then 'thrown' on the streets.
Why is there the use the word 'thrown'? Let us be reasonable - If you are recruited and left with the assumption/assurance that housing will be provided/available when your recruiter knows after you have inquired that assistance is needed in the form of either a) funds to personally rent/lease or b) financial arrangements would have had to be made prior to your arrival for advancement of funds to cover the 'normal' renting/leasing' arrangements which landlords and real estate professionals in New York demand. This New York renting/leasing 'norm' to which you the recruiter have not got a clue. Now tell me? Haven't you not been taken for a ride? Have you not found yourself in a situation where you are, in fact, 'thrown' in the streets? Need it be said, New York is a tough place!
Some of these teachers where even encouraged to take their families. My God! Where will they sleep?
Please 'talk' about this matter with all your friends and aquaintances....the political representatives...call the Board of Ed.,...call Mayor's office...call the office of the Governor and express your concern. Do not fail to mention the sloppy, incompetent, unprofessional behaviour of those responsible for this entire mess.
If you can provide help in any way kindly reply to this post.
Love!
