  • Jamaica Close To Signing Air Service Agreement With Chile

Jamaica and the Republic of Chile are close to signing an air services agreement.

The release from the OPM said the leaders spoke of the need for ease of travel between the two countries and agreed to follow up on the discussions to ensure the agreement is formalised.

An air services agreement would also boost tourism between both countries.

With Jamaica expanding its cooperation with several Spanish speaking nations, Holness expressed particular interest in language training.

Bartlett upbeat about more flights from South America

SANTIAGO, Chile — Ed Bartlett is upbeat that Jamaica could start welcoming non-stop flights from Peru after a meeting with senior executives of LATAM, the largest airline conglomerate in Latin America.

“The meeting is the strongest signal that the Latin American market is now going to come into its own. We could see three flights per week between their Lima, Peru hub and Montego Bay, Jamaica within 12 months,” Bartlett, the tourism minister, said after the recent meeting at LATAM's global headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

New flights broaden options for locals and visitors, says Bartlett
      Monday, July 01, 2019

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett said yesterday that a flurry of new flights between the United States, South America and Jamaica, including new non-stop services between Lima, Peru; New York; Detroit and Montego Bay, will lead to an even broader variety of flight options for locals and visitors alike.

Bartlett also announced that starting December of this year there would be three weekly flights between Lima, Peru and Montego Bay by LATAM Airlines, thereby further opening up tourist markets of Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador and other countries “given LATAM's massive Lima, Peru hub that connects with scores of destinations across the South American continent”.
