  • Do Black Lives Matter In Jamaica?

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

    Is Capitalism Racist?
A scholar depicts white supremacy as the economic engine of American history.

    By Nicholas Lemann

But for many years now historians have disputed the old Southern agrarian notions about how the South related to capitalism. This form of revisionism, which has blossomed in the academy and beyond during the past decade or so, takes its inspiration from “Capitalism and Slavery,” published in 1944 by Eric Williams, a young historian who later became the first Prime Minister of an independent Trinidad and Tobago. The book, which argued for the centrality of slavery to the rise of capitalism, was largely ignored for half a century; now its thesis is a starting point for a new generation of scholarship. Large-scale Southern slaveholders are today understood as experts in such business practices as harsh, ever-increasing production quotas for workers and the creation of sophisticated credit instruments. Rather than representing an alternative system to industrial capitalism, American plantations enabled its development, providing the textile mills of Manchester and Birmingham with cotton to be spun into cloth by the new British working class. As WalterJohnson, one of our leading historians of slavery, wrote in 2018, “There was no such thing as capitalism without slavery: the history of Manchester never happened without the history of Mississippi.”

Espeut was years before me in HS so I don't know the guy. I read his columns and he sometimes makes interestiing points as he has in this one.

Black lives don't really matter in JA...particularly poor people.. of which Black people constitute ~100%. All the yappin about out of many one people...is basically bullshiit. The country is still a Plantocracy with the same social structure as in colonial times.

So when we hear politicians...of whatever party...yapping about "prosperity for Jamaica"..in essence it's prosperity for the white/high brown/chinese etc elites. These folks highjack virtually all the country's income esp as govt policy is designed for them...dole out a small portion to the "middle class" and leave scraps for poor people.

They don't even provide proper education so that the poor have a good shot at social mobility. Poor people are left (and encouraged) to fighting among themselves...including for or against their chosen corrupt political party....which are both funded by said elites. He who Pays the Piper Calls the Tune. Basically JA operates in an evil cycle of tyranny.

JA is a Plantation society trapped by its Dummy Leadership in the worst of the Babylon Shitstem...with its sycophant politicians marching to the tune of the rich and the Western governments they really serve.

      Pathetic

I have said it a million times , Jamaica needs to eradicate and rewrite its archaic laws so that its palpable to its citizens needs ,specifically the poorer masses. These laws are colonial ,in some cases pre colonial in others, that should answer the question if it values black lives.

40 years in jail and no charge , he died in his 80s ,a 140 plus still in jail at the Governor General pleasure.

        http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/lates...%238217;_death

The political system of selection and governance is high on that list . Make no mistake about it the system didnt fail ,it functioned as it was designed, the proof is the 140 plus still behind bars.

All these pleasure clauses are basically how the Englishman used to describe or put a nice spin on an indefinite detention. What they are saying is that we are detaining you indefinitely for the protection of the public as we think you are unfit to plea,” said Williams, noting that there is usually no evidence of follow-ups with the inmates, who then languish in jail.

Of note that would mean to protect the public (master) from the enslaved or trouble maker. Not even the english have said laws on their books today.
