It is more travelling than DA, at least for the clubs in the South.

There are less teams than the USSDA - The USSDA had about 200 teams, while MLS NEXT has about 115. Some former USSDA teams chose to join ECNL.
When MLS was forming their youth development league, the 3 main things they wanted to do 1. reduce the pay-to-play, as much as possible, 2. grow youth soccer in underserved communities, and 3. provide continuing education for youth coaches, in the league, through their MLS/French Football Federation training program. Only USYS chose to partner with them (USYS is the largest youth soccer organization, with a membership of over 3 million boys and girls). Thought that USL would have partnered with them, since MLS partnered with USL, when USL was in trouble, to stabilize & grow their league, but they announced that they were planning their own youth league.
Too many organizations wanting to do their own thing. You would thing they would partner with MLS, considering the things MLS NEXT wants to accomplish and what MLS can offer, especially the resources to help them reduce pay-to-play.......With the financial losses, from COVID-19, I wouldn't be surprised if USL decides to partner with MLS NEXT, and some teams that joined ECNL coming over. We'll see what happens.

It reduce cost for the MLS team but the other teams involved charge for this program and the travel involved it will be more expensive for some teams.

Some of the big clubs down here have both ECNL and MLS teams. Some clubs partner with others for ECNL.

yeah we will see how it work out.
