  • Virus costs global tourism US$320b in five months

The global tourism industry has been devastated by the coronavirus pandemic, with US$320 billion lost in exports in the first five months of the year and more than 120 million jobs at risk, the United Nations chief said Tuesday.

Secretary General Antonio Guterres said in a policy briefing and video address that tourism is the third-largest export sector of the global economy, behind fuels and chemicals, and in 2019 it accounted for seven per cent of global trade.

Yuh damm right , one tech company is worth 2 trillion and its value is increa$ing in this global recession, imagine how much they are worth combined and how much harder it would be for every other industry ( not just tourism) to climb out of this recession without it.

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

          Apple employs 137,000 employees worldwide
          Google - 118,000
          Facebook - 52,534
          Twitter - 46,000
Amazon - 840,000 of that number, how many "low hanging fruit jobs" i.e. drivers and warehouse sorters do you think make up that number?

The Hilton Hotel chain, employs 420,000 worldwide. That is ONE hotel chain. Do the maths.

"The hotel industry supported more than one in 25 U.S. jobs in 2018, according to a study conducted by Oxford Economics and sponsored by the American Hotel & Lodging Association and the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation.

The total number of U.S. jobs supported by the industry rose 1.1 million from 2015 to 8.3 million in 2018. The industry directly employed 2.3 million people in the U.S. in 2018, a gain of 160,000 from 2015."

"The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics accounted for 16.78 million people working in the hospitality and leisure industry as of December 2019."

and those are just direct employees, not indirect ones like the farmers who sell their wares, manufacturers etc. or other form of contract employees.

              Monkey money dat !

Technology’s Percentage of World Economy GDP is Growing

According to the research consultancy IDC, the global information technology (IT) industry market, encompassing hardware, software, services, and telecommunications, is expected to reach $3.8 trillion in 2016, up from $3.7 trillion the previous year. Other calculations exclude sectors that are not deflationary such as services, and come up with 1.6 Trillion/year or 2% of World GDP. This figure was just 1% of World GDP in 2004 and only about 0.5% of World GDP in 1992. So technology’s percentage of the world economy is growing exponentially. At this rate it will be 4% of world GDP by 2026 and 8% by 2038.

A PWC report on the future, expects the global economy to grow 3% per annum and double by 2038 to $150 Trillion per year. If technology keeps on its exponential pace, hitting the 8% figure, then deflationary technology sectors will be doing $12 Trillion in revenue in 2038 — $10.4 Trillion being net new revenue from today.

what he doesn't know is none of those industry support small businesses as tourism does. None is resilient as tourism. Tourism will always come back and if you value the tourism industry as a whole you will see there is a lot of capital and value but it can't be dominated by any one company and smaller companies always have a healthy slice all over the world. What happen to AOL, Myspace, what happen to Apple in the 90s and others like GE etc.
