The same could be said of a rasta sandals. Like Jangle say its not mutually exclusive.
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

So Don one preaches and unuh ignore him and wax

lyrically bout trinkets malls when Rome a burn down. How mi nuh hear bout no Ganga free zone fi tourists and real casino fi help educational budget. No first worl infrastructure. People in Jamaica still a build house with bricks since 1921.
No solar energy use. No development of better sewer system. recycling programs on a large scale. No robotic island wide high school development programs. In 3 years time cars will be driving itself on most highways and minister of Tourism a talk bout wanting 500 million per annum.
Dat a money fi any country. 'Jayz just mek dat rapping over the years. Now him a partner with NFL fi mek billions. Jamaican Tourist minister and unuh in a the dark ages.
STEm add an A and is now called STEAM.
Full steam ahead mi brethrens..soon people a go moon as a tourist destination a wah Jamaica a go do den.
Tourism a no di way fi first worl development a trinkets money dat. In GDP tourism money should have a new heading and be regarded as added revenue.
Better unuh tun the Trelawny stadium into a world class casino and trade development center and adjoining areas as a world class mall. with trinkets kiosk and name brand stores. Mega worls class mall and restaurants.
Restaurants pushing healthy meals using local farm organic products.
Another area used for all major reggae shows
Rent to buy housing in downtown Kingston. these are real development.

Oh yes you can but we are talking high discounted for high value items. So st Maarten and St Thomas for example you can buy a Tag watch for example 15-25%. Less than normal. Two of my better watches were from St Marten and believe it or not Hslf moon shopping village in JA.

The JA Mentality... yuh affi si wid dem

A key problem with Jamaicans is the lack of capacity to understand change and when it's necessary for progress. Basically the thought/ideation process is both limited and flawed.

This produces a devotion to whatever folks "grow up" with... without any critical thinking process. So for example we get a blind devotion to the JLP or PNP (AKA tribalism) and therefore an inability to form a meaningful social contract to solve big problems.. e.g. crime

Tourism is a critical industry for JA and it should therefore grow & prosper. Unfortunately we also get from Jamaicans a blind devotion to serving tourists as Jamaica's PRIMARY enterprise... into infinity. Jamaicans are very comfortable with this as it's what they're accustomed to for generations.

No critical thinking is applied...nor any sustained planning and action for a 21st Century future where tourism is perhaps NOT the main industry. That would take too much "work" and take too "long"...in the view of the typical Jamaican educated dummy.

The fact that the money which controls media in JA is often tied to tourism industry interests is not helpful for critical analysis of that industry. We routinely get their industry PR releases served up prominently as valuable "news".

Tourism is an industry which can thrive on (primarily) low labor skill inputs and also has an extremely high quotient of FX flight for imported goods, services and profit repatriation.

This industry profile means that as long as tourism remains Jamaica's "leading industry" there will be little incentive to decisively improve JA's HUMAN CAPITAL in line with progressive 21st century requirements. It is big human capital investments and improvements which drive 21st century progress. JA has little interest in this

So JA can improve its circumstances somewhat with tourism leading the way...but will always remain relatively backward and unable to achieve its full potential. Jamaicans seem satisfied with that unfortunately. It's what they know

He wants to grow the average spend to US$250 per passenger, primarily by improving shopping experiences for tourists. Those ambitions are driven by market preferences as 67 per cent of visitors travel for shopping opportunities. Right now, Jamaica has limited products and is not positioned to entice that type of tourist.

“You will see that shopping, proportionally, will be in the region of one per cent. From extrapolation, it’s about US$200 million. We have to increase that significantly,” said Bartlett. “I want our cruise spend to move from where it is to US$500 million. That’s where the Bahamas is. That’s where St Croix is. That’s where St Martin and little Cayman is. “We are in the cellar, so to speak, of the shopping spend.”

Under the plans and programmes aimed to reposition Jamaica as a shopping destination, an artisan village is set to open in Falmouth in December. It is meant to encourage artisans to produce more items for the shopping /cruise market.

That sounds great as long as he is not talking about bringing in more and more Sourheast Asian tax evading thieves to sell Chinese plastic tourist junk beads and Chinese made tie and dye crappy cotton rasta t-shirts.

Real native art and rasta culture stuff they need to promote.
