  • Tivoli - Marking the 10th Anniversary of the Armed Uprising

... As we approach the 10th anniversary of the "Tivoli Incursion" on May 23 the issue of crime and those whom conduct, support and/or give tacit approval by ignoring the people supporting criminals, must be examined and held accountable. That's IF Jamaica wishes to curb the scourge. As the criminal-supporters abound openly in JA (and on this forum) with little accountability, Jamaicans do not appear ready to rid themselves of the problem.

Sparked by the largest armed uprising in Jamaica's history, the military incursion was the single bloodiest event caused by criminals in Jamaica's history since the Eventide Massacre (5m in). Then the criminals were working at the behest of the US Govt against the GOJ of the day. This is as opposed to the US govt's supportve role of GOJ in subduing the Tivoli Terrorists & Co.

Those unfortunates whom have suffered and will continue suffering grevously from the impacts of Jamaica's biggest problem - extreme criminality - cannot be forgotten. We would all know many such people and have been personally impacted. This series is in their recognition.

Les begin with some baseline facts -

    THE TIVOLI INSURRECTION

The 2010 Kingston unrest, dubbed locally the Tivoli Incursion, was an armed conflict between Jamaica's military and police forces in the country's capital Kingston, and the Shower Posse drug cartel. The conflict began on 23 May 2010 as security forces began searching for Christopher "Dudus" Coke, a major drug lord, after the United States requested his extradition,[1] and the leader of the criminal gang that attacked several police stations.

The violence, which largely took place over 24–25 May, killed at least 73 civilians and wounded at least 35 others. Four soldiers and police were also killed and more than 500 arrests were made, as Jamaican police and soldiers fought gunmen in the Tivoli Gardens district of Kingston.

Much of the unrest happened in the constituency of the then Prime Minister of Jamaica, Bruce Golding, who said he was "taken aback" by its scale. He was described by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) as a "known criminal affiliate" of Coke; Golding retorted that this was "extremely offensive". Although the U.S. government considered Golding one of Coke's associates, it said it supported the Jamaican government's attempt to capture Coke.

When prompted as to his whereabouts three days after the mission was launched, police stated they did not know where Coke was. Coke was eventually captured on 23 June, after initial rumours that he was attempting to surrender to the United States. Kingston police arrested him on the outskirts of the city, apparently while a local reverend, Reverend Al Miller, was helping negotiate Coke's surrender to the United States Embassy.

The US govt with the CIA supported the violence and massacres in the 80s and supported the pacufication of the same criminals 10 years are both correct. The main criminal in both was Edward Seaga. He left Jamaica with a legacy of violent criminality whuch will take us the next 100 years to recover from. He never apologized and better yet he was never hauled before the World Court to face charges of Crimes against Humanity. Says a lot about the WC, doesn't it.
Maybe the country need another security foce invasion of that garrison and end it once and for all. That would be one way of speeding up our recovery.

Agreed. What a wreck of a country caused by JLPNP Criminality.. high & low. Seaga was indeed Jamaica's #1 Godfather of Violent Crime with Tivoli as his Crime Center . Many other corrupt politicians trailed behind him in his 50 year Reign of Terror.

Criminality esp murder is Jamaica's biggest issue..and main symptom of the country's mental dysfunction. It reduces GDP by 3-4% ANNUALLY per the World Bank... apart from devastating 1000s of families per year.

Yet we have people - such as this Bricktop fellow - openly celebrating criminals, boasting of friendship with terrorists and excusing away their murderous ways without any censure. Most just treat this as "NORMAL" and make no comment. The guy most likely profited from his relationships with criminals. What other motive could there be to celebrate them? That's the extent of the mental rot in Jamaicans.

You can't make this shlt up

C'mon Don1!!! You need to look at the "positive".......Yes, some people got "hurt", but we gave Jamaica its very own U.S. Prime Minister and put a stop to that Democratic Socialism, self-sufficiency mumbo jumbo. Where is the gratitude???.......Jamaica should erect a monument to commemorate that "achievement", with Edward Seaga & Ronald Reagan on it.

May 23, 2010 - The Criminal Uprising Begins

Attack On State - Police Stations Set Ablaze Cop Shot, Civilian Slain

Violence rocked sections of the Corporate Area all day yesterday, as armed men brazenly took on the security forces in a sustained attack on police stations in anticipation of the apprehension of Tivoli Gardens don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.

Four police stations came under attack; a civilian succumbed to gunshot wounds during an assault on the Fletcher's Land Police Station; and a policeman sustained a minor gunshot injury.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding said last night that two members of the security forces had been injured, but The Gleaner could not confirm the second case.

There were indications before dawn broke that something was afoot - five days after the court issued a warrant for Coke's arrest.

A Gleaner team observed a large convoy of Jamaica Defence Force vehicles - including armoured trucks - with soldiers heading into Kingston along Michael Manley Boulevard.

The tension, which simmered throughout the week, reached boiling point yesterday, as gunmen loyal to Dudus came out in show of support even as the security forces seemed to retreat as the day wore on.

All that is a result of the criminal enterprise that Seaga created, funded and encouraged. And we wonder why we are where we are today. History has consequences.

One of the interesting things about Dudus is prior to the TG incursion, the head criminal(extortionist, drug dealer, murderer, robber, gun runner, etc)was off limits to police and the media.Do you renember ever seeing a picture if him before...?
He did not create THAT climate, it was facilitated...

Are you referring to Bricktop being off limits to the police and media?? Likely he was just a pawn/facilitator and not THAT significant

Seaga normalized criminality in Western political philosophy. Nowhere else in the west has anyone coming close. Maybe some warlord in Liberia, DR Congo,or Afghanistan but not in any Western political "democracy", and he managed to escape justice and even has things named after him, which is a testament to the naivety of the Jamaican political elite. We have a long way to go.

Dudus AKA "Chris": Profile of a Mass Murderer...

An outstanding Graduate of the Seaga College of Criminality

Dudus: Profile of a World Class Terrorist Dummy

Christopher Michael Coke, also known as Dudus, is a convicted Jamaican drug lord and the leader of the Shower Posse, a violent drug gang started by his father Lester Coke in Jamaica, which exported "large quantities" of marijuana and cocaine into the United States.

Born: March 13, 1969 (age 51 years), Tivoli Gardens, Kingston, Jamaica

Other names: Dudus, Paul Christopher Scott, Presi, President, General, Shortman, Omar Clark What...no "Chris"

After his father's death in 1992, Coke, at the age of 23, became leader of the gang and the de facto leader of the Tivoli Gardens community in West Kingston. He developed community programs to help the poor and had so much local support that Jamaican police were unable to enter this neighborhood without community consent.

Coke was arrested on drug charges and extradited to the United States in 2010. His arrest had provoked violence among Coke's supporters in West Kingston. In 2011, Coke pleaded guilty to federal racketeering charges in connection with drug trafficking and assault. On 8 June 2012, he was sentenced by a Federal Court in New York to 23 years in federal prison.
