  • Peter King tapes could be released to defense lawyers

Lawyers representing a 23-year-old man, who is accused of murder, will know Friday, whether they will be allowed to view some of the controversial video tapes seized at the property of former Trade Ambassador Peter King.

Defence attorneys for Sheldon Pusey, who is accused of killing Mr. King, have been pressing for copies of the tapes.

In September, a Resident Magistrate ordered that copies of the tapes be made available to the defence.

But when the case came up for hearing two weeks ago, investigators requested time to meet with Director of Public Prosecutions Kent Pantry for guidance on the matter.

Mr. Pantry has since given his advice.

It is understood that over the past few days the prosecutor and the investigators have been going through the tapes.

Defence attorneys Berry Bryan and Vincent Wellesley have argued that the video recordings impact directly on the case, in which Mr. Pusey is accused of killing Mr. King at his Waterloo Road apartment on March 19 last year.

The lawyers say the tapes were needed to show that young men were being lured to the apartment.

The attorneys made it clear that under the law they are entitled to view the controversial tapes.

They also argued that Mr. Pusey stabbed Mr. King in self-defence when he tried to have sex with him.

Mr. Pusey was charged last year following an investigation into the murder of the former trade ambassador.

Mr. King was found dead in his apartment with multiple stab wounds and his throat slashed.
