  • KSAC sends Errol Greene on long leave

There is a new development concerning former head of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), Errol Greene, in his quest to return to the post of Town Clerk at the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC).

Mr. Greene, whose tenure at the solid waste collection agency ended unceremoniously, will not be able to take up the post as was expected.

RJR News was informed Wednesday night that Mr. Greene has been sent on 145 days vacation leave.

It is reported that the KSAC has informed Mr. Greene that his leave took effect on September 18.

A source who spoke with our news centre declined to give a reason for the decision not to allow Mr. Greene to return to the KSAC at this time.

According to the source, Mr. Greene had accumulated the vacation days since his appointment to the KSAC and it was decided that he should immediately proceed on leave.

Lincoln Evans, who has been acting as Town Clerk since Mr. Greene was seconded to the NSWMA, will remain in the post.

RJR News reported earlier this week that was no word on when Mr. Green would return to the KSAC.

A KSAC source who asked not to be named said his reinstatement would have led to another dispute.

It is understood that some KSAC employees are not in agreement with Mr. Green's return.

When our news centre spoke with Mr. Green on Monday he said he was unaware why anyone would be opposed to his return.

Mr. Green was appointed Town Clerk in 1999.

He was subsequently seconded to the Kingston City Centre Improvement Company and then to the National Solid Waste Management Authority.

The long running legal dispute involving Mr. Green and the Board of the NSWMA officially ended last month.

A statement published in the press on the weekend said Mr. Green and the Authority's management have mutually agreed to terminate their contractual relationship.

Both parties said they regarded the move as being best in the public interest and were satisfied with the terms of the settlement.

Well, if he has the days ...! Wouldn't it be the same thing if he was fired and was paid for his unused vacation?

Yes - that's doable. Govt service - most big wigs earn 35 days vac. per year (excluding Sat. & Sun) can accumulate up to 3 years. After that you can still accumulate as the Council/Ministry can reject granting vac. on the grounds of "exigencies of the service". In my time, a suh it used to go.

To think of it .... he was on secondment to 2 different entities. If that is the case, why should he be accumulating vacation days?
