    Cutting taxes

    Audley Shaw should tell us:
How and why is this government would cut taxes when they do not have enough revenue to fund social programmes and election promises? How does the reduction of stamp duty and transfer tax speed up the pace of business and related industry?

How and from where will the government recover revenue they will lose cutting transfer tax and stamp duty?

How much will this tax cut cost the government?

Instead of cutting taxes, the Government should be widening the tax base to net people in the real estate and related industries.

      You are joking ofcourse?!

I see this as a party of repaying some who dumped money in the JLP coffers before the elections - There shall be expansion in real property portfolios of many of those who paid JLP election and other associated costs.

There will also be passing of information as to thinking on future expansions...I am also sure many of the projects the former government planned will be continued on...so the opportunities to 'cash in' i.e. 'make good on the return on bribes' will abound.

Not for one moment saying this did not also aply to the otherside...been saying so for quite sometime in my FIRST DEGREE OF SEPARATION argunements...yet, not so explicitly.

unnu nuh easy. Only rich man buy property? It cut the cost of closing by 7% or so. Instead he is trying to drump up more action in the real estate market. If he was doing it for an individual he could have made it industry specific based on the industry the person is in.

Transfers are under-reported so the government isn't even getting what it should.

              Karl,

The increase in Land taxes will more than make up for the shortfall.

The increased prices of sold property will be transparent and the taxes will be assessed on the new demonstarted market value...not on old appraised value.

Large purchases are happening everyday in Ja. It appears that in my circles (sellers and buyers living outside of the island) properties are changing hands. ...expectations are high - "poised to take off"!

And they are misrepresenting the transfer price. It's an ineffective means of collecting revenue.
