A St. Catherine taxi operator, who was allegedly caught having sex with a 13-year-old girl, was granted bail for $150,000 on condition that he does not transport any students during the hearing of the case.
The accused is a 20-year-old man of Sydenham, St. Catherine.
Investigating officer, Tanisher Hylton, from the Spanish Town Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, said that on September 13, police personnel were on patrol in the Hillrun area of St. Catherine when they spotted a Nissan motor car parked with the windows 'foggy' and the car rocking.
She said that the lawmen went to investigate and saw the accused in his underpants and the female student. He drove away and the police chased him. The car is said to have got out of control and after it crashed the girl, still in her uniform, ran from the vehicle.
When the taxi operator was cornered he, reportedly, told the officer; "Officer a likkle sex mi did a have wid har."
Following investigations the accused was charged with carnal abuse.
When the case came up for mention, the accused man's lawyer, Richard Edwards, told the court that the age of his client should be taken into consideration. He said that he has a fixed address and that he will turn up for the trial. He denied that his client told the police that he was having sex with the child. Resident Magistrate Nicole Simmonds later granted bail to the accused but warned him to keep out of the way of the complainant. He will return for trial on November 19.
