Minister of State to remain as Councillor for Carron Hall Wednesday, 19 September 2007 Although he has resigned from the post of Chairman of the St. Mary Parish Council, Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, Robert Montaque is to remain as Councillor for the Carron Hall Division.

Mr. Montaque resigned as Mayor last Friday.

Richard Creary, who was the Deputy Mayor, assumed the Chairmanship of the Council Tuesday.

Mr. Montaque says he decided to remain a Councillor so that persons in his Division will continue to have representation until the Local Government Election is held.

Mi nuh overstan this argument, didn't he run as an MP and win the seat. Then how can he remain a Councillor. Is long time mi leff the Local Govt. service, but this is the first time I've heard this.

the problem is local government is around the corner. Normally it is every two years but the PNP didn't want to run it before a general election.
I guess if he vacate the seat then there won't be anytime to have a by election so there is no law against him having it and him say him want his people to have some representation and I know he chat a lot but he get some things done.

Not really there are at least two PNP MPs in the last administration that held the two seats...Luther Buchanan in Eastern Westmoreland and Victor Cummings in Central Kingston.

Which didn't make it right...it was ridiculous...how can you be MP and Councillor at the same time? Certainly, it needs reviewing. People need appropriate representation...
