assume you're referring to United Oil & Gas PLC (UOG) and their Walton Morant Licence offshore Jamaica, specifically the Colibri prospect, under the context of a "new 2-year extension til 2028." However, based on the most current information available to me as of April 7, 2025, there seems to be a mismatch in your question’s timeline. Let me clarify the situation and address your query.
The most recent extension granted to UOG for the Walton Morant Licence was announced in January 2024 by the Jamaican Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport. This extension amended the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) to extend the initial exploration period by two years, from January 31, 2024, to January 31, 2026—not 2028. There’s no public indication as of now that a further extension to 2028 has been granted or is under discussion. If you’re referring to a hypothetical or unannounced extension pushing the deadline to 2028, I’ll need to work with the current facts and then extrapolate.
Under the existing extension to January 31, 2026, UOG has committed to a work program involving technical studies like piston core sampling and seismic reprocessing to further de-risk the licence, particularly the Colibri prospect, which is estimated to hold 406 million barrels of unrisked mean prospective resources (per Gaffney Cline’s 2020 audit). The goal is to attract a farm-in partner to share the cost and risk of drilling an exploratory well. UOG has been actively seeking such a partner since at least 2020, with renewed efforts following the 2024 extension. However, as of their latest updates (e.g., August 2024), no wells have been drilled, and no partner has been secured, though four companies were reportedly under NDAs as of June 2024.
Now, to your question: "Will an explorer well be drilled by 2028 under a new 2-year extension til 2028?" Since the current extension only runs to 2026, let’s first consider that timeline. UOG faces a "drill or drop" decision by January 31, 2026. If they secure a partner and funding (estimated at US$30 million for a well), drilling could feasibly occur before that deadline—say, in 2025 or early 2026—assuming no delays. The process from partner agreement to spudding a well typically takes 12-18 months in frontier basins like this, per UOG’s own estimates (e.g., CEO Brian Larkin’s 2021 statement: "We can drill within 12 months of finding a partner"). So, under the current extension, drilling by 2026 is possible but not guaranteed, given their ongoing partner search and past setbacks (e.g., a preferred partner walking away in late 2023).
If we assume a hypothetical new 2-year extension from January 31, 2026, to January 31, 2028, as your question suggests, it would give UOG additional time to finalize a partnership and drill. In this scenario, drilling by 2028 becomes more likely but still hinges on securing a partner. The Colibri prospect is "drill-ready" in terms of seismic data (2,250 km

partner invests $30 million to drill a well at Colibri. Here’s why:
          • A 70%–75% stake for the partner reflects the $30 million covering the well cost, balanced against UOG’s prior investment and the license’s multi-billion-barrel potential.
          • UOG’s history of seeking low-cost exposure (e.g., its 20% stake with Tullow) and its current 100% ownership suggest it would aim to keep at least 25% to benefit from a discovery.
          • The upper end (40%) assumes UOG leverages Colibri’s value and negotiates a carried interest or partial cost contribution.
          Conclusion
If a partner invests $30 million USD to drill a well at the Primary Colibri prospect under an NDA, UOG PLC would likely retain 25% to 40% ownership in the Walton Morant license, with the partner taking 60% to 75%. The exact split depends on negotiation factors like UOG’s past costs, whether it remains operator, and the perceived risk-reward of the prospect. For a definitive answer, one would need access to the confidential farm-out terms, which are not available as of April 7, 2025.

on X from April 8, 2025, that indicates interest in operations related to United Oil & Gas PLC (UOG) and its activities at the Colibri prospect in Jamaica. While the post does not explicitly use the word "operations," it discusses ongoing interest and momentum in UOG’s farm-out campaign, which directly ties to its operational plans for the Walton Morant Licence, including the Colibri prospect.
