Ahead of his swearing-in ceremony next week, Prime Minister designate, Bruce Golding says his government will be faced with immediate fiscal challenges.
Before his meeting with the Governor of the Bank of Jamaica, Derrick Lattibeaudiere, Mr. Golding told journalists that he will be prudent with economic management but big on delivery.
"What I have been advised of is that there are commitments that will have to be met that were not provided for in the budget. If we say we are going to do something we must do it," said Mr. Golding.
Concerning the region, Mr. Golding expressed concern about the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
He said regional leaders should change the course of the CSME.
"We support the Single Market, we have serious reservations about the Single Economy. A single economy cannot operate with seven different currencies, it is just not possible. We will never be able to get rich off each other, we can only get rich off of the rest of the world. Let us be focused on what we can do in Europe, not what we can do in Port of Spain or in Kingston," he continued.
